Design for the Multi-Purpose Terminal (Berth 55 to 62) Port of Alexandria

Application: FR3 for firefighting and life safety systems (control circuits), cable shall
comply with application standard BS 8519. For life safety applications, cables shall remain
operational to allow the building occupants to be alerted, evacuated and protected during
their escape from the building for a duration of: 60 minutes for large and/or complex
buildings and 30 minutes for other buildings. For firefighting applications, cables shall
maintain functionality of the supported systems (firefighting, smoke and heat exhaust,
ventilation, etc.) for a duration of: 60 minutes or 120 minutes, depending on the project
evacuation plan. Cables shall be category 1 with 30 minutes survival time according to
circuit integrity properties.

O. Fire Resistant Cable, 300/500 Volts. (Abbreviated as FR4 on the drawings), Multicore
conductor, plain annealed, solid Class 1 (up to 1.5 mm2), or stranded Class 2 (2.5 and 4
mm2) copper wires in circular conductors to BS EN 60228. Cable shall comply with BS
7629-1, Insulation comprises Mica/Glass fire resistant tape covered by fire resistant silicone
rubber type EI 2 to BS EN 50363-1 or halogen free cross linked Type EI 5 to BS EN 50363-
5, Maximum operating temperature: not less than 70 Deg. C, Overall screen shall be metal
tape laminated to a plastic tape (Al/ Polyester foil) bonded to the outer sheath and applied
over the insulated conductors and in contact with a separate tinned annealed copper circuit
protective conductor or drain wire. Outer sheath shall be made of flame retardant, low
smoke and zero halogen thermoplastic material. Each conductor shall be color coded, the
outer sheath shall be red or white in color. Cable shall be LPCB and/or BASEC certified and
marked by embossing on cable insulation. Cable shall carry approval of the local Authority
Having Jurisdiction. Cable shall comply with BS 5839-1:2013 Clause 26.2(e) enhanced, BS
5266-1:2016 Clause 8.2.2(b) enhanced, BS 8519 Category 2 Control Cable (60 minutes
survival time), BS EN 50200 PH120 and BS 8434-2 (120 minutes) for cable integrity
properties. Cable shall comply with BS EN 60332-1-2 and 3-24 for flame propagation
properties, BS EN 61034-2 for smoke emission properties and BS EN 60754-1 and 2 for
acid gas emission properties.

Application: FR4 for Fire detection and alarm systems: Cable shall comply with application
standard BS 5839-1. Cable shall meet Enhanced level of fire resistant cable.

Application: FR4 for Emergency lighting: Cables used for emergency lighting luminaires
shall adequately resist the effects of fire and mechanical damage and retain circuit integrity.
Cable shall comply with application standard BS 5266-1. Emergency cables shall be
categorized as enhanced emergency lighting cables with inherently high fire resistant and
survival time of 120 minutes as per BS EN 50200.

Application: FR4 for firefighting and life safety systems (control circuits), cable shall
comply with application standard BS 8519.
Cables shall be category 2 with 60 minutes survival time according to
circuit integrity properties.
