Objective:

The main objective of this minor program is to introduce one of the countries brightest minds
in technology to emerging trends in entrepreneurship, especially pitching their ideas against
market forces, understanding business needs and fundraising, managing & building effective
teams, field-oriented market research effectively using tools and sources from digital and
social media, legal aspects of setting a start-up, IPR issues and patent filing, global financial
systems, disruptive technologies, social entrepreneurship, analyzing latent potential of
emerging markets etc. Technology combined with entrepreneurial innovation is the key to
economic development and self-reliance. On top of solid theoretical foundation, seminars,
workshops, hands on sessions in boot camps, direct exposure with industry experts will prepare
ground for real entrepreneurship mind-set and culture.

Entrepreneurship

Overview:
Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design & Manufacturing, Kurnool (IIITDM
Kurnool) was announced in 2014 after receiving the assent of President of India to the Institutes
of Information Technology Act, 2014, and its subsequent publication in the Gazette of India,
Extraordinary, Part- II, Section I, on December 08, 2014. The foundation of the institute was
announced by the Government of India to give effect to its obligation under the Andhra Pradesh
reorganization act 2014. IIITDM Kurnool is fully funded by MoE. IIITDM Kurnool launched
its academic program with the support of its mentor Institute, IIITDM Kancheepuram, Tamil
Nadu, in August 2015 from the Kancheepuram campus. Consequently, upon the approval of
parliament, IIITDM Kurnool was accorded the status of Institute of National Importance by
making an amendment in the IIIT act 2014 on August 03, 2017. In 2015, the Andhra Pradesh
government allocated an area of around 200 acres for the establishment of a permanent campus
in Kurnool.

The institute currently offers B. Tech. programs in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science,
Computer Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Mechanical
Engineering with a total annual intake of 240 students. It also offers M. Tech. in Computer
Science & engineering with specialization in Data Analytics and Decision Sciences, Electronic
System Design and Smart Manufacturing.

IIITDM Kurnool is planning to roll out a new minor program from July 2021, namely
“Entrepreneurship for Innovators”, provided by the “Department of Sciences”. The objective
of the program is to familiarize and train students in emerging trends of entrepreneurship. The
curriculum for the program has been carefully crafted based on current trends and prepares
students to develop & test original ideas into realizable products in the market.

This course is open for all the branches of undergraduate engineering students from second
year onward. The course requires no prior knowledge of entrepreneurship and start-up. Only
keen interest and passion to pursue one’s dream is sufficient.

The expected outcome of this program is to make the students think independently, build
prototype’s, test and market their idea’s, manage and work with teams, etc. The scope and
career options from this course are wide ranging such as banking, finance, Design &
Manufacturing, Agriculture, Digital Media, Tourism, Retail, Information Technology, etc.

Course Objective To introduce various aspects of Entrepreneurship such as startup culture,
understanding creativity and innovation.

Course Outcomes 1. Identify idea and assess it with respect to potential customers and
the market environment.
2. Explore the risks and rewards of entrepreneurship.
3. Building and managing effective teams.
4. Finally, the course modules will focus on how business concepts
underlie compelling entrepreneurial missions that provide guidance
to the evolution of a business model and future strategic planning.
Contents of the Module 1
course Building Entrepreneurial Culture and Team - Introduction to Teams /
effective groups. Types of teams. Team dynamics - evaluating team
effectiveness. How to develop high performance work teams, winning
teams. Self-managed team.
Module 2
Creativity and Innovation in entrepreneurship - Learning to change the
rules of the game by creating innovative value propositions and discovering
new market positions for sustained competitive advantage.
Module 3
Social entrepreneurship - To summaries the importance of social
entrepreneurship. Explain how social entrepreneurships differ from
traditional entrepreneurships. Use design thinking to generate solutions for
a social problem.
