Two thousand sexual harassment cases in Universities.
The police victim support unit has recorded an increase in sexual harassment cases this year of about two thousand in Lusaka only. It is reported that they has been an increase in sexual harassment cases among student’s in Universities and colleges in the Lusaka both male and female. A 52 year old lecturer who was found guilty of sexually harassing one of his students is of the prominent cases that was among the reported ones, Speaking in an interview with Lusaka Star Police victim support Director Miss Roberta Muchangwe said the unit condones what happened to the student “We try to protect each student and citizen from sexual harassment, ’she said. She further stated that the force has a job to protect each student and citizen against perpetrates and whoever is found going against the law shall be dealt with. Victims are encouraged to open up and reported such cases to the school or the nearest police station. Police said they have put in place a program called ‘Zala’ that is available to help victims and they have warned the public who go against this law it doesn’t matter who they are or what position the hold.
