The University of Zambia (UNZA) management has warned the general public against the
unlawful use of the university name and logo for advertising programmes.
In a statement availed to the media, the university says it is a crime to use the university brand
and its official logo to gain pecuniary advantage at the cost of the university.
University of Zambia registrar, Sitali Wamundila says it has come to the attention of
management that there are a number of individuals, associations and organisations who are
involved in training unsuspicious students using the name of “The University of Zambia” and its
official logo in advertising academic and professional programmes.
“The name and logo are patented brand assets and intellectual property and no one should use
them without express permission from the university” Wamundila said.
He added that anyone found using the name or the logo should stop with immediate effect or else
he /she will face prosecution immediately. The university also added that certificates or diplomas
obtained from such individuals, associations and organisations purporting to work with UNZA
are unrecognisable and invalid.
Therefore in this regard the members of the general public are advised to enrol with UNZA
through its approved channels.
