PRETORIA SRC COMMUNIQUE 30 June 2023

NSFAS DIRECT PAYMENT AND EZAGA

Revolutionary greetings.

We hope that this communique finds you well and In good health.

The SRC wishes to describe its utter disgust against the irresponsible ethics and
decorum of Andile Nongongo ( NSFAS CEO ) who handled the NSFAS direct payment
strategy which has resulted in devastation in TUT.

Andile proceeded to roll out the system at the rise of an educational point disregarding
the realities and possible harms. He additionally persisted to impose the system and
defunding the students of TUT.

We’ve cited with outstanding unrest that there is no satisfactory capacity on the postern
of NSFAS and the appointed service provider ( EZAGA) to provide allowances to
students on time and efficiently.

We’ve also understood that not only does EZAGA lack the requisite capacity to
disperse allowances, but they are also gravely incompetent, and corrupt, and are
charging students exorbitant fees which deplete their already unsatisfactory allowances.

The SRC on numerous occasions raised ropes that the reparations of their kindness
(EZAGA) are exorbitant and unreasonable, especially for students who are in desperate
need of financial support for their studies.

Regrettably, TUT students that are defunded by Andile and his buddy Saud Ally (
EZAGA CEO) are facing eviction from TUTEH privately owned properties that prioritize
profit & unfortunately, the University does not have a clear strategy on how to amicably
address the matter.

Thousands of these students are facing a potential death penalty termed historic debt
and would possibly face both academic and financial exclusion come 2024.

As the SRC we preserve our position that defunding of students from needy and
working-class homes is criminal and unacceptable.

The SRC has written a letter of distress to the Public Protector and Parliament ( portfolio
committee on higher education) to speedily intervene on the objections as they have the
potential to cause sporadic protests across all TUT campuses if not amicably dealt with.

The SRC has furthermore received an authorized date to submit a memorandum of

outrage about NSFAS and EZAGA to the minister of higher education Dr Blade
Nzimande on the 10th of August 2023 at the Department of Higher Education and
Training, Science and
We thus instruct the student populace to support and rally behind the SRC as they
embark to deliver the memorandum of grievance to the minister of higher education and
training.

We will also plead with the university to arrest academic activities on the day of the
Match to the department.

NB: Buses to the match will be provided

Assembly point: TUT PRETORIA WEST CAMPUS BUS TERMINAL

DEPARTURE 09:00

Refreshments will be served.

We want to state categorically clear that :

We reject an allowance system that isn't user-friendly or easily accessible to students
and possesses exorbitant fees for students to pay.

All students who have been defunded must directly be reinstated back to the system,
must not be expelled from TUTEH buildings furthermore not be excluded for the 2024
academic year.

We have recorded the frustrations and concerns our students are facing currently due to
the problems summarized above, we therefore motivate all students not to panic as It
will not be business as expected up-till our order which is the total rejection of NSFAS
DIRECT PAYMENT and EZAGA are met.
Yours in leadership
