PREVENTION
BEGINS WITH US

The project “Gender Violence
Prevention begins with us” is a
two-year Erasmus+ project
involving five schools from Italy
(Coordinator), France, Portugal,
Latvia and Spain .
The alarming data on the increase
of violence against women in all
Western countries and especially
against young women, has led us,
schools from different European

countries, to join our efforts to
work in the prevention of violence
against women. Our main goal is
to promote a change in a culture
based on stereotypes that disfavor
the role of women in
contemporary society. We start
from the deconstruction of pre-
constituted models such as the
model of masculinity or the myths
of romantic love to provide other
fairer and more equitable models
Bettwen January . 27-31, 2020 we
had our first meeting in Almería
(Spain). An unforgettable
experience for all the participants,
both host and hosted.

An interview
with our
students

How have the travel
preparations been?
Irene: It has been quite good
organised. We worked a lot before
leave for the projects we had to
bring to Spain.
Viktorija: It was alright, super early
flights and long trips, but it was
well organized and good.
How was the trip?
Irene: Fortunately the flight wasn’t
late so we enjoyed a lot the trip.
My favourite part of the trip was
the coach from Malaga to Almeria,
because I could admire the sea
and the landscape.
Lelde: The flights were really early
so the trip started with us sleeping
on them, but it was nice. We really
enjoyed flying over Spain and
driving with the buss, because we
could enjoy a lot of landscapes.
How was the arrival to Almeria ?
Have you arrived at the
designated time?
IAlba: We arrived at Almeria’s bus station
punctually and honestly I was a bit
nervous. I wanted to finally meet my host
family but at the same time i didn’t know
what to expect. Of course, eventually
everything went perfectly.
Arta: The welcome from everyone was so
warming and special.
Did you like the escape room? Explain
your participation.
Liva: It was quite interesting, but there was
a lot of people in the group so it wasn’t a
job that everyone could truly do together.
Viktorija: It was fun and all, but I think there
were too many people and way too little
to do, but it was still interesting.
What lesson have you visited? why have
you chosen it? Is it different from your
lesson in your school?
Irene: I participated at the maths lessons
because the spanish people that I knew
better had that lesson. I noticed a lot of
difference between our maths lessons. In
italy we call the teacher with the surname
while in Spain students call the teacher with
the name or even with nicknames. I
noticed also that the structure of the lesson
is very different.
Viktorija: I visited biology lesson, I was
surprised that they're studying it in English,
but it was good, because that way I could
understand a lot from it and it was fun. I
noticed that they were studying
something I had already studyed
in Latvia so I could easily
participate in the lesson.
Explain what your work was in
the workshop glossary and add
a photo.
Giovanna: In this workshop i had
to write down 3 words in italian
related to gender violence with
their meaning and i took some
words i had found in some
articles when i was in Italy.
Viktorija: We were working in
groups made by people from
each country. We searched for
words that relate to gender
violence and translated them in
our languages. I don't have any
photos, but I am visible in the
photo that Italian person has
added.
Explain what your work was in
the workshop on stereotypes.
Which conclusion seems most
important to you?
Lelde: We were working in
groups made by people from

Viktorija: It was interesting to see how
people from different countries think
about stereotypes and how they are
different in every country.

Explain what your work was in
the workshop Women during
Spanish Civil War.
Alba: I worked with my group
about the biography of Dolores
Ibarruri. First we organised the
story and then we pasted them on
our sheets. Eventually, we started
to create a presentation with the
most important informations about
her life.
Paula: In my group we had to
study the biography of a woman
during the Spanish Civil War and
make a presentation including the
underlined words and phrases that
were the most important things in
her life but only put photos in. So it
would be a presentation of photos.
During the visit to the Spanish
Civil War Bombing Shelters, you
can see the life of the non-
military citizens, victims of the
war. Most of them were women
and children. What do you think
is the role of women during the
wars? Do you think that this role
has changed a lot in the last
century?
Irene: During the civil war the role of the
women was fundamental. They helped
injured people and grew the children up
while the men were fighting. I think that this
role has changed in the last century but
not a lot. There are still a lot of women
which help the soldiers like nurses but there
are also a lot of women soldiers that
contribute in the real war.
Viktorija: During civil war women raised
children, made food, helped injured people.
I don't think that this role has changed a lot
in this century, but it has become better,
like women being able to contribute in war
too.
Investigate women with political and
military power and women pacifists and
peace activists in your country.
Paula: In Latvia many women are
becoming famous and popular. As of
political status there's a few politicians. We
even had a female president, she is a very
smart woman. There are many police
officers, too. Women are growing to be
more recognized and the genders are
being treated more equally with time.
Seek works of women artists in the
museum. How many have you found?
What do you think the proportion
between paintings painted by men and
women mean?
Irene: I don’t remember very well the
number but there were a lot of men
painters.
Viktorija: I don't remember the
number of it specifically, but
there weren't many. I saw that
men took the main role in
painting in that time.
Who are the most famous
contemporary women artists in
your country . Did you know
them before this research?
Irene: Rossella Biscotti and
Bonvincini Monica. I didn’t know
them before the research.
Viktorija: Maija Tabaka and
Kristīne Luīze Avotiņa. No I did
not know these artists before
research.
Who is Doña Pakyta ?Did you
know them before this
research?
Giovanna: Francisca Torres Diaz
was an almerian businesswoman
and environmentalist. Shhe
worked to ensure the
conservation of this unique area
full of rare plants and wildlife
which is now recognised by the
UNESCO. She to donate to
Almeria her house so that after
her death this was transformed
into a cultural center with plenty
of paintings.
As italian conservationists i found an
entire association of conservationist
women called ADA that was born in
Parma to protect nature and i already

Explain your impressions of the
visit to the Alcazaba.
Irene: I was interested in Medina
Azahara because the Caliph of
Cordoba built the palace for her.
Liva: It was extremely breathtaking
and I enjoyed all the views.
Choose your favourite moment
during the Cabo de Gata trip..
Irene: I think that the part of the
day that I enjoyed most was the
last beach that we visited.
Viktorija: I loved the hike even
though it totally killed my knee.
Explain your work during the
workshop advertising and
magazines for her/him and the
main conclusions.
IGiovanna: During this workshop
i,with my group,had to put some
advertising in magazines that they
had given us and we had to put
them in 4 different poster boards
based on if it was a good
advertising,ok or bad one
according to stereotypes. I shared
my opinion with the others
components of the group.
IExplain your work during the workshop
for developing an app.
Irene: I made this work with Maria, my host
sister. It was very funny and interesting. We
made an app to create a survey.
Renate: The girl that I was working with
was really good at explaining and showing
me how to make the app. I had never
made an app before so it was very
interesting and fun for me. It's cool that
they teach that in Spain.
How were the activities on the beach?
what games were played? What have
you participated in?
Irene: I found very funny the activities.
There were tennis, beach volley, ultimate
and taekwondo. I participated in all of
them.
Paula: Activities on the beach looked fun. I
didn't really participate in any game
because I wanted to just enjoy the good
day and take it easy. I went for an ice
cream with my friend and it was delicious!
What do you like most about the Museo
de Almería?
Irene: I liked most the workshop about the
venus.
Viktorija: I liked how she explained the
history and the workshop where we had to
make the statue.
What is the IAM?
Irene: It’s a centre to help women who
have suffered violence
Viktorija: It's a place where
women can get help if they have
suffered from violence.
Do you think it is necessary
that there are organizations
like IAM?
Alba: Yes, I’m sMany victims of
violence don’t want to report
because they feel alone or they
are just too scared. But with
organizations like this one,
women are protected and they
can handle things better thanks
to the support of IAM.
Are there similar organizations
in your country? What are
they?
Irene: Yes, we have a very similar
organization in our city,
Bergamo.

What was your participation in
the meeting with teachers and
students of professional
training “Técnico Superior en
Igualdad de Género” ?
Irene: Divided in groups we
made a sort of box against the
gender violence and we watched
a video about the topic.
Viktorija: We had to watch a video and
then decorate a box against gender
violence.
Do you think that it is necessary that

the speaking part of the spanish
guys,the teachers and the
headteacher,another significant
part is the part where we
presented how we decorated our
hand luggages and why to give
our general idea of what we
thought also of gender violence
and share ideas with others
showing their creativity.

Viktoria: The scariest thing was the

presentation when suddenly when
you're walking to the front
everyone decide that I have to
present it.
