Introduction

Written by Charles Dickens in 1943, the narrative of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly

miser who is visited by the spirit of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the
spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come, is described in “A Christmas Carol”.
Scrooge is converted into a nice gentleman.

Plot

On a Christmas Eve, Ebenezer Scrooge is unfriendly to his employee, refuses to donate

money to charity and then is harsh to his nephew when he invites him to spend the
holiday with him. That evening his old business partner Jacob Marley who died 7 years
ago told him he had another chance to change.
Scrooge is approached by a series of spirits on Christmas Eve who take him on a tour
of the past, present and future Christmases. Scrooge’s devoid of sympathy is shown
through the lives of people around him. His stingy low pay condemned his employee
and his family to a life of poverty, but the holiday season brings them joy. Scrooge is
taken through his previous Christmases by the Spirit of Christmas Past, who shows him
himself as a miserable kid and a young man more in love with money than his fiancée.
Scrooge’s clerk, Bob Cratchit’s family, is shown by the Spirit of Christmas Present.
Scrooge meets Tiny Tim, who is extremely sick but lively, at Bob Cratchit’s house. The
Spirit then transports him to his nephew Fred’s Christmas celebrations, to which he had
turned down as invitation.
Scrooge’s visions of a future Christmas convince him that he will not be remembered
when he dies.
He vows to live a life of compassion changing his attitude. While incognito, he buys the
biggest turkey he can for the Cratchit’s family, he then joined his family to celebrate
Christmas. He donated a bountiful money for the poor and he would never revert to the
cold-hearted sinner he was back then.

Conclusion

This story shows that you can always change your behavior in a nicer way towards
others, that money and business isn’t everything in life, the potential of forgiveness, the
harmful effects of loneliness, empathy and affection.
This original is for all audiences, from young to old, very well-written and certainly life
changing. I absolutely love the character development in Scrooge, the plot is very nicely
put in. I’d recommend others to read this book.
Film review

Introduction

In this review, I’ll be talking about the animation movie “A Christmas Carol’. This movie
was made in 1997 and is a fantasy/drama set in London around 1800-1850. It tells the
story of a man named Ebenezer Scrooge, a churlish man. “A Christmas Carol” is
originally a book written by Charles Dickens and is famous for its message. The movie
is about Scrooge, a cruel man, who wants nothing to do with Christmas. The night
before Christmas, the spirit of his dead friend Marley visits his house and tells him that 3
spirits will visit him that day to show him he should change his ways.

Plot

After Marley’s spirit leaves, the spirit of the past visits Scrooge and takes him to 4
Christmases where he realizes that his money changed him. After that, the apparition of
the Present comes and takes him to his nephew. His nephew invited him to celebrate
Christmas before, but he declined it. He saw his nephew mocking him. He heard how
he’d declined his offer and recognized how heartless he sounded. At the house of his
apprentice, Scrooge saw his family and sick son. They toasted to Scrooge for their meal
but made fun of him too. He now understands that the way he acted made him a bad
person and wanted to change. The spirit of the future came, Scrooge saw a premonition
of what could happen if he stayed unfriendly towards people. He went to his grave and
got so scared that he began to beg for a second chance.

The voice acting and writing was good. It was well-written, and the voices showed
emotion. The character of Scrooge is well portrayed and his development throughout
the movie is impressive. You begin to feel for him near the ending and the scenes in the
future are really touching. This movie teaches an important lesson: society is cruel, but
one single act of kindness can often make someone’s day. Caring more about the
people around you, can make the world a better place.

Conclusion

In conclusion it’s a great movie. Even though it’s an old story, it’s a classic so therefore
I’d recommend you watch it. It taught me a lot and it’s an important subject still. And if
you don’t want to watch the old version, this movie has been remade plenty so you
could watch a more recent version.
