team, having turned out for the Men in Blue in various roles, including opening the innings.

Suryakumar scored a scintillating 26-ball 68 not out to pave the way for India's 40-run win over
Hong Kong and sail into the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup on Wednesday.

On a two-paced wicket, Suryakumar, who came in to bat at number 4, played a wide range of shots
which included six sixes and as many fours.

Vice-captain KL Rahul, who is coming off an injury, has looked completely out of sorts in the
tournament. Against Hong Kong, he struggled to score a 39-ball 36.

"So you are saying we should not play KL bhai (Rahul)?" he said when asked if he would open the
innings with Rohit Sharma.

"He is coming after an injury and he needs some time now, we have time right now," he added.

With the T20 World Cup just around the corner, India are continuing to experiment in a bid to find
out the best batting combination.

"Things will go on, there are lot of things we are trying and experimenting. There are things that we
want to do and it's better to try those things in matches rather than in practice sessions."

starts, while Virat Kohli scored a 44-ball 59 not out.

"It is a challenge to bat first. We are working on that exactly, like what sort of target we need to set
while batting first, that's what we are trying to get right.

"Today as well, we were trying to do that, once we started batting first, what total should it be,
what tempo and how to finish. Who are the batsmen left (to come in), what will be their role, it was
very clear for us."

"So, if I couldn't accomplish that role, then obviously the next one, Rishab (Pant) would have done,
if not DK (Dinesh Karthik) he would have done and then we had Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja), even he
was there to do that ...so we have enough firepower to put up whatever we need to in the first
innings, it will get done."

Suryakumar changed the complexion of the game with his 360 degree hitting.

"The situation was such that I had to go and bat out in the middle the way I did. At the start the
wicket was a bit slow.

"Once I got in and after a chat with Virat, he told me just express yourself, bat the way you usually
bat. My plans were absolutely clear on the way to bat...and I really enjoyed it."

Tim David named in Australia's T20 World Cup squad, Warner

rested for India tour
David has made a name for himself in the shortest format of the game by plying his trade in T20 leagues across the
world

PTI, Sydney, SEP 01 2022, 11:49 IST | UPDATED: SEP 01 2022, 11:58 IST

Singapore-born batting powerhouse Tim David received his maiden Australia call up on Thursday
as the host country named a 15-member squad for its T20 World Cup defence and preceding India
tour.

The 26-year-old, known for his big hitting exploits, has played 14 T20Is for Singapore in 2019 to
2020, averaging 46.5 with the bat. But under ICC rules, he is eligible to play for Australia
immediately.

leagues across the world.

Born in Singapore to Australian parents before moving to Perth when he was two, David was
bought by IPL side Mumbai Indians for a whopping Rs 8.25 crore earlier this year.

"Tim (David) continues to establish himself with some quality performances in leagues around the
world, earning a place in the squad," Chairman of Selectors George Bailey said in a statement.

"He is a highly gifted, natural ball striker who will add extra batting depth to the group which has
had a lot of success in T20 cricket in recent times. We expect him to play a similar role to that he
has been playing in the past few years."

The 15-member squad, led by Aaron Finch, will also travel to India later this month for three T20Is,
starting September 20.

However, David Warner has been rested for the tour of India and Cameron Green will come in place
of the star opener.

"This is a similar squad to that which became the first Australian's men's team to win a T20 World
Cup, who are now very excited about playing the tournament at home," Bailey said.

David has been added in the squad at the expense of leg spinner Mitchell Swepson, who is the only
member of last year's World Cup-winning squad to miss out.

"Mitchell Swepson was unlucky to miss out based on conditions in the UAE at the last World Cup
where we planned for tired, spinning wickets compared to what we would expect are good batting
conditions along with the larger grounds in Australia," Bailey said.

After the short tour of India, Australia will host West Indies (two matches) and England (three
matches) in October.

Australia's T20 World Cup squad: Aaron Finch (c), Pat Cummins (vc), Ashton Agar, Tim David, Josh
Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Kane Richardson, Steve Smith, Mitchell
Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa.

Warner will be replaced by Cameron White for the three T20Is against India.

Architect of India's 40-run over Hong Kong, Suryakumar Yadav was left humbled by the
heartwarming gesture from Virat Kohli who doffed his hat to his compatriot following his
sensational knock in the Asia Cup here.

Suryakumar smashed six sixes and as many fours in his sizzling 28-ball 68-run knock against Hong
Kong to help India grab a place in the Super 4 stage of the tournament on Wednesday.

His sensational innings overshadow the 44-ball 59 innings by Kohli, who bowed to Suryakumar in
appreciation and also looked towards the dressing room, saying kya hai yeh (what is this man?)
after the Indian innings.

"It was a heartwarming gesture from Virat Kohli. I have never experienced it. I was wondering why
he wasn't walking ahead and then when I realised, I asked him to walk together. He is much more
experienced than me," Suryakumar said in the post-match press conference.

Suryakumar added 98 runs with Kohli to lift India to 192 for two.

"I enjoyed a lot batting with him. We were talking a lot how to go about in the next few balls. He is
such an experienced and I haven't played many T20Is. So having the experience at that stage in the

middle was crucial." To Epaper

Put in to bat, openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul failed to convert their starts but Kohli held the
innings together, scoring his first international half-century in more than six months.

However, it was Suryakumar, who provided the much-needed impetus in the back-10 as he
reached his fifty in just 22 balls.

"The situation was such that I had to go to the crease and play fast. Because the wicket was a little
slow in the starting, I talked to Virat Kohli, he said 'just express yourself and do as you bat’. My plan
was also very clear on how to bat so it was fun."

With the second successive win, India became the second team to qualify for the Super four.

Star batsman Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav hit half-centuries to steer India to 192-2 against
Hong Kong in the Asia Cup on Wednesday.

Kohli made 59 while Suryakumar smashed 68 off 26 balls as the two put on an unbeaten stand of
98 after Hong Kong put India in to bat first in Dubai.

Suryakumar hit a 22-ball fifty and cracked four sixes in the final over to bring alive the crowd as
India try to seal their Super Four spot in the six-nation tournament, which acts as a tune-up to the
T20 World Cup in October-November.

Hong Kong, who made the main draw after winning all three of their matches in the qualifiers in
Oman, had largely kept India in check before losing their way once Suryakumar started teeing off.

The 33-year-old Kohli, who is going through an extended batting slump and made 35 in his team's
opening win over Pakistan, also got going to complete his 31st half-century in his 101st T20
international.

Skipper Rohit Sharma started cautiously before taking on Hong Kong medium-pace bowler Haroon
Arshad with two sixes and one boundary in a 22-run third over.

Spinner Ehsan Khan slowed the scoring and medium-pace bowler Ajay Shukla reaped the benefits
in the next over as he took down Rohit with a slow off-cutter. He made 21.

Kohli walked in to loud cheers from a sparse Indian crowd but struggled to play freely against a
disciplined bowling attack which kept the runs down.

Ghazanfar and soon found some rhythm.

KL Rahul and Kohli kept the score ticking with singles and twos with occasional boundaries to put
on 56 runs before Ghazanfar broke through with the wicket of Rahul (36).

Suryakumar signalled his intent right away with two successive sweeps off Yasim Murtaza and
finished with six fours and six sixes.
