B. WARNINGS AND SAFETY
BIO-UV sterilizers are ready to install, no work is required inside the reactor.

READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THIS MANUAL BEFORE SWITCHING ON THE

BIO-UV APPLIANCE.
INSTALLATION

RECOMMANDATIONS
The reactor must be installed in a technical room, protected from light and rain.
The reactor must be installed in a dry zone.
The installation zone temperature must be within 0°C and 40°C.
Ambient humidity must be < 80%.
Make sure you choose a position where the lamp can be taken out – the AVAILABLE HEIGHT should be
DOUBLE the total height of the appliance.
The sterilizer should be installed after the filter(s).
Keep any sources of hydrochloric acid vapours away from the installation.

● The unit must be charged for installation.

We recommend the presence of a by-pass.

● Before accessing the connection terminals, ensure that all supply circuits are
disconnected.
● The reactor installation as a whole must be protected with a suitably adapted circuit
breaker. (See A. Technical characteristics)
● Check that cable complies with legislation and the required power level.
(See A. Technical characteristics)

USE and MAINTENANCE:

● The sterilizer must be turn on 24h/24 in order to disinfect the first liters of water at each
opening of tap.

● Never look at the ultraviolet lamps when lit. This may cause severe injuries or burns
and may even lead to loss of eyesight.

● Do not touch the ultraviolet lamp with bare hands, as these would leave impurities that
shorten the life of the lamp. If you do touch it: clean with alcohol or white vinegar.

● Never unscrew the quartz tube sealing nut when the reactor is on load as the quartz
tube could be blown out of the reactor with force and injure you.
● Do not use the reactor if the power supply wire is worn or damaged. In this case it should
be replaced.
● Even when stopped, power is present in the electrical unit so make sure that the
main power supply upstream of the electrical cabinet is switched off before carrying out any
work on the equipment.
● To avoid electric short-circuits, do not place the electric wires or the reactor in the pool
water or in any other maintenance or cleaning fluid.
● Do not restart the system until the electric unit, the covers exterior elements of the
reactor are correctly back in place.

● Do not use the BIO-UV reactor for any other use than that for which it was designed.

In the presence of water softener, install the HOME lower down it.

D. STARTING UP

1 Check that the electrical connection is compliant.

2 Check that the top of the equipment is correctly positioned.
3 Having checked the fitting of the BIO-UV sterilizer, Carry out an INJECTION:
Place a disinfectant product
(for example chlorine pellets or active oxygen)
4
in the reactor or, if possible, in the filter container
located upstream of the sterilizer.
5 Briefly open the draining points then close them again.
6 Leave to act for 30 minutes.
7 Set the ON/OFF switch to the ON position.
The UV lamp operation indicator lamp on the front of the electrical
8 cabinet should light up.
The sterilizer automatically disinfects the water.
9 Open the water points for a few minutes in order to rinse through.
10 Repeat this operation each time sterilizer bactericide upkeep is carried out.

H. CHANGING UV LAMPS, QUARTZ TUBE AND O-RING

SWITCH OFF the reactor,

1
CUT the POWER source and EMPTY IT.

2 Remove the cover (33).

Take hold of the 4-pin connector (28) and gently withdraw

3
the lamp upwards.

As soon as the lamp is a few centimetres clear, withdraw

the connector, take hold of the lamp’s cap and disengage
4 the lamp from the quartz sleeve keeping it correctly
aligned with the axis.
Carry out this operation CAREFULLY.

Do not drop the lamp in the quartz sleeve, it

5
may break and damage the quartz.

Undo the stainless steel nut (25)

6 and
Remove the plastic washer (24).

Marque, Modèles et Brevets déposés - Produits exclusifs Page 9
Insert a thumb or finger in the sleeve and gently
7 withdraw it until the O-ring comes free
from its housing.

Take hold of the quartz sleeve and extract it fully MAKING SURE that you keep it
8
correctly aligned with the axis.
9 Clean the quartz sleeve using acid or spirit vinegar or change it if necessary.

CAREFULLY insert the sleeve in the equipment,

10
keeping it correctly aligned with the axis.

With a finger inside the sleeve, position the quartz in its socket (15) at the bottom of
the equipment. The quartz should protrude slightly
(by the thickness of the O-ring),
11
it should not be dropped right to the bottom.
If the quartz is correctly positioned in the socket, when you press it, it feels flexible
(pneumatic effect).
Lubricate the new O-ring with edible fat.
(Put a new O-ring at each change of lamp)
12
Position the O-ring around the sleeve
and push it fully home in its housing using your nail (do not use tools).

Place the plastic washer inside the stainless steel thread.

13
Re-tighten the nut by hand, tightening it normally.
Put the installation back in pressure before the reassembly of lamps
14
and check that there is no leakage in the quartz tube.
Take hold of the new lamp taking care not to place your
fingers outside the cap.
15
(if you do, clean the lamp with a soft cloth and some
methylated spirits)
Engage the lamp in the quartz sleeve keeping it correctly aligned
16
with the axis inside the equipment.
After engaging it to the ¾ point, connect the 4-pin connector ensuring that it is the
17
right way round (locating pin). Do not force.
18 Fully engage the lamp in the quartz sleeve.
19 Secure the 4-pin connector using the stainless steel nut.
20 Refit the cover.

I. ASSEMBLY OF THE UV PRO3 MONITOR AND SENSOR OPTION

This PRO3 monitor will indicate the drop in intensity of lamps during their lifespan and can also
provide warning of fouling of the quartz duct or the UV-C radiation measurement cell.

1. Fit the UV sensor on the reactor

Power supply cable UV sensor - Turn the UV lamp off

- Cut the water supply.
- Empty the UV reactor: Remove the drain plug
(indicator No.5, paragraph F exploded diagram,
parts list)
- Carefully screw on the Teflon UV sensor in place
of the drain plug. Beforehand check that the
watertight seal is correctly positioned
- Replace the water and check watertightness.
- Connect the electrical power supply to the Pro3
Monitor box
Monitor box Pro3 Wall attachment
bracket

2. Attach the Pro3 UV monitor box to the wall

3. Connect the electrical power supply to the Pro3 Monitor box
4. Calibrate the UV sensor
- Turn the UV lamp on
- The UV-C lamps will increase in temperature to reach maximum radiation in two to five
minutes (depending on the temperature of the liquid to be processed).
- It is now necessary to calibrate the cell depending on the liquid to be processed:

CALLIBRATION of the UV-C radiation measurement cell

(To be carried out each time the lamp is changed and the cell is
cleaned)
1. Take a small screwdriver.
2. SLOWLY turn the small screw located under the Main Alarm red LED clockwise,
until the green Calibration OK LED turns on.

Adjustment

The following is displayed on the UV monitor when calibration is correct:

- Permanent green LED: OK
- Green LED: Calibration OK
