INFORMATICS – AN ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE

Informatics was promoted three and a half decades ago with a vision to be a leading global
player in the electronic information Business. Headquartered in Bangalore, the silicon valley
of India, the Company has a team of over 180 well-qualified personnel and a sales network
spread over length and breadth of India. Additionally, the company is backed up by a team
of over 200 home-based workers that the company has developed in the last twenty years
who are constantly trained by the Company in various tasks of information handling for
various content development projects. The company currently has a client base of more than
3000+ customers in India and abroad across the higher education and publishing segments.

The core competencies of Informatics are structured across three distinct groups.

Publishing, Content Management Services (PCMS)

Focusing on both domestic and global markets, this group serves global publishing clients by
providing editorial and compilation services that includes – Online Journal Management
System (OJMS), Digitization, Building Knowledge Repository, Content Review and Editing,
Indexing & Abstracting, Layout Designing, Data Conversion, Web research, and a host of
related services.

With these key competencies as our business strength, we provide services to many global
and local publisher partners. We have the competency to provide end-to-end solutions for
pre-publishing, publishing and post-publishing activities.

Product Development

 i-Scholar - is a digital library of peer-reviewed journals which facilitates institutions

and individual users to browse and subscribe to the listed journals. Users can
subscribe to pre-defined subject collections or pick and choose journals in print,
online or print + online media as per the requirement. iScholar provides bibliographic

search along with access to author index and table of contents without any
subscription.

 J-Gate: J-Gate is the world’s largest e-Journal portal. Content from over 48,000+ e-
journals world over in English is harvested and aggregated. The resultant database is
offered to academic and research institutions as customized products/services for
regular searching and monitoring (alerts) of what is published in research, industry
and trade journals. The Company has created a host of customized solutions around
this portal for major Indian library consortia.

 India Business Insight (IBI) - IBI is the only product of its kind to offer rich and rare
insights into developments in the Indian business and industry from both local and
global perspectives. A digest of vital news and analysis on Indian business and
industry from leading business magazines and newspapers.

Marketing and Distribution Services for global content

Since its inception, Informatics has been providing marketing and distribution support to
leading global information product companies, and building leadership position for them in
the Indian e-content market for academic and research information.

We serve customers across the globe such as American Chemical Society, Thieme, Reed
Elsevier, OCLC, Dow Jones, Financial Times (London), all IITs and IIMs, all ICAR funded
research institutions and Agricultural Universities, all major Universities, and all major
research labs including like CSIR, and major corporations like BHEL, BEL, Wipro, Infosys,
ONGC, Tata Steel, TCS, etc.

DIGITAL OBJECT IDENTIFIER (DOI)

The Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is an identification system for intellectual property in the
digital environment, developed by the International DOI Foundation on behalf of the
publishing industry with an aim to:

 provide a framework for managing intellectual content,

 link customers with publishers,
 facilitate electronic commerce, and
 enable automated copyright management

CrossRef is an official Digital Object Identifier (DOI) Registration Agency of the International
DOI Foundation. Informatics has the collaboration with CrossRef for providing the DOI
service.

Benefits of Association with Informatics:

• The annual membership fee for CrossRef is $275. This annual membership fee is
waived off by virtue of Informatics Publishing Limited’s association with CrossRef.
• Publishers, Institutes, and Societies can acquire DOI on a cost per article basis without
paying any annual fee.
• This usage based pricing module includes generation of metadata XML file for each
article as per CrossRef XML Schema and deposition of metadata as per CrossRef
guideline for registering the DOI.
• Informatics will acquire unique prefix for journals and articles for the publishers
associated with us.

DOI Procurement Process

Informatics has the collaboration with CrossRef for marketing the crossref services like DOI,
Plagiarism Check, Reference Linking, Cited-by-linking etc. You need to sign the PILA
membership agreement with CrossRef for obtaining the Publisher ID (DOI prefix).
Informatics will coordinate with CrossRef for registration process, and you need to just sign
the agreement sent by us without any investment.

There is a process in assigning DOI to any electronic document.

 Designing DOI Pattern
 Generate the metadata in XML format as per CrossRef Schema.
 Validate the Metadata against CrossRef Schema
 Submit the validated XML files to CrossRef
 Assign registered DOI to electronic document.

Methodology:
 Current Issue:
o Publisher has to send the metadata of each article in the Spreadsheet Format
(Excel file) to Informatics.
o Informatics will generate the XML file and deposit the same into CrossRef
database.
o Informatics will send you the DOI numbers for each article. The DOI number
can be used for publishing on PDF file, online and print versions.
 Archive Issues:
o Publisher to send the published PDF file for assigning the DOI numbers to
Informatics.
o Informatics will generate the XML file and deposit the same into CrossRef
database.
o Informatics will send you the DOI numbers for each article.

Benefits of Associating with IPL

• The annual membership fee for CrossRef is $275 along with and an annual admin fee
of $55 for Similarity Check. This total annual membership fee of $330 is waived off by
virtue of Informatics Publishing Limited’s association with CrossRef.
