Select the Maintenance menu and click on the item Configuration File:
A
t the end of the countdown, the access screen
shot will appear:
The configuration file loaded previously has modified the Access Point configuration parameters as defined in
the "Procedure 1".
If the Access Point has been configured for the first time, remember to change the IP address of the
LAN1 from 192.168.0.55 to 192.168.2.11.
The following settings can be modified. Save the parameters so that you can check that they are the same or in
case move them also in the Access Point configurations.
From the main menu of the control panel, it is possible to modify the password (at least 8 characters) by
clicking on the item change password, upgrade the firmware provided by Varian by clicking on Update
Firmware; the upgrading will be completed when the led on the panel will flash green. Click Information to
display the current status of the panel, on Log File to display the details of the register.
When the receptor is configured as Access Point, the screen shot shows a list of the countries and the relative
codes. They are updated thanks to a file .ccl loaded in the receptor for its use. The file had already been
loaded by Varian but periodically updatings will be performed.
Finally, by clicking on Factory image it will be possible to reset the panel.
Click on the button Acquisition → System Settings and check that there are no ticks under Image
Corrections.
Click Offset Calib. on the main screen shot or select it on the menu bar under Acquisition.
Once the Offset calibration is finished, click on the key Acquisition → System Settings and tick the item
Offset Corrections under Image Corrections.
In order to compensate the non-uniformities of the Receptor, a reference image of the gain (flat field) is used
in the corrections module to rectify the images. The image of flat field or Gain Calibration must be captured
by Varian Smart Panel (VSP) before acquiring the images. Whenever a gain calibration process is performed,
an offset calibration is previously applied even if it had been performed before. In this way the receptor will
be adjusted properly.
In order to ensure a correct heating, the FPD PaxScan 4336Wv4 should be ON at least 30 minutes before
performing the gain calibration.
For a good calibration it is recommended to acquire images with a median of about 13000 – 14000 ADU
(Analog to Digital Unit).
The calibration frames number used for the gain and offset calibration can be adjusted through the proper
scrolling menu. More frames are used, better will be the calibration. It is recommended to collect 32 frames
for the gain calibration and 8 frames for the offset calibration in order to get an optimal images quality.
Before proceeding with the Gain calibration, check through a test acquisition that the median is included in
the range 13000 – 14000 ADU.
Step:
1. Set the focal distance at 135 cm, open fully the collimator, center the detector in respect of the x-ray
beam by ensuring that no object is interposed between the x-ray output and the detector. Insert the filters
of 1 mm AL + 0,2 mm Cu present under the collimator.
2. Check that the acquisition mode is correct.
3. Ensure that the item Hardware Handshaking is selected.
4. Select “Acquire Image” to start the images acquisition or, in alternative, the menu Acquisition →
Acquire Image (F5).
5. Set the following x-ray values: 70 kV, 2 mAs, small focus. In the acquisition window click on Start
Acquisition and perform the exposure. In case there is no tick on the item Hardware Handshaking,
select it in order to perform the x-ray exposure.
A progress bar will appear and when the 100% is reached, it will be possible to display the acquired image.
From that check by scrolling the mouse on the image that the median is in the range 13000 – 14000. Such
value can be displayed down on the left.
In case the value is not included in the range, don’t change the kV but modify the mAs to reach the necessary
ADU level for the calibration.
6. Then click Acquisition → Gain Calibration to start the gain calibration.
The Gain calibration must be performed at regular steps, typically once every six months, when the
central beam of the x-ray source has been moved in respect of the receptor or in case of replacement
of the x-ray tube.
Varian advises to collect 32 frames (minimum 8) for the gain calibration for an optimal images
quality. However, the real frames number necessary for the calibration depends exclusively on the
system and the performance requirements.
From the same file (FP.config) it is possible to enable/disable the preview image display during the x-ray
images acquisition in DeLuxe.
In order to enable it, set PREVIEW = 1 otherwise PREVIEW = 0.
Check that at the box General the item Flat Panel type is set on Varian V4, the dimensions of the matrix are
like in the screen shot in the figure below (Matrix width: 2436, Matrix height: 3032, Matrix shift X: 30,
Matrix shift Y: 20, Max value flat: 56000), Pixel bit out is set at 16 bit and the item Raw data process is set
on None.
Save and close the application in case no additional modifications to the settings have to be performed.
Then, with the panel Varian Paxscan 4336W v4 it is possible to enable the offset calibration at the DeLuxe
opening.
Open the file DeLuxeConfig.exe located in C:\DeLuxe and insert the password admin.
Click on the Dynamic panel parameters tab and tick the item Calibration at startup for enabling the offset
calibration at the DeLuxe switching-ON.
For performing the Dark Calibration every 4 hours tick the box next to the item Auto offset cal.
At the item Frame number offset cal set the number of frames to be acquired (typically 1/2), in Min delay
(s) autocal set 14400 and in Post exposure delay (s) autocal set 30.
Save and close the application in case no additional modifications to the settings have to be performed.
The screen shot below will appear, click on UpdateDB, wait a few
moments and close the application.
Perform the autorun or click twice on Setup.exe and follow the steps indicated in figure and at the end start
again the PC so that the installation is performed successfully.
At the end of the installation in C:\IMAGERs a folder called with the Serial Number of the detector
containing the file .dat concerning the detector configuration will be created
.
Always from the installation CD of the receptor, copy in the folder C:\IMAGERs\SerialNumber the
following folders and files: Defect Maps, Receptor Test Data, Receptor Test Summary, Wifi,
SerialNumber_117367rD_4336Wv4_STD_receptor_config).
Connect the panel via cable for the first configuration. Perform the calibration of the new panel as indicated at
the previous point and at the end modify the path from which Deluxe takes the calibration files from the file
FP.config present in the path C:\Deluxe.
The main screen of the control panel will appear, click Update Firmware:
In order to ensure that the updating occurs successfully, check that the panel battery is completely loaded and
don’t remove the battery during the loading procedure.
Click on Browse to select the firmware to be loaded and, once it has been selected, click on Update

The reference file is created during the Offset calibration process and it is saved automatically in the folder
References (C:\Program Files\PixRad Software 7.*\bin\references).
Gain Calibration
Thales recommends to perform the Gain calibration:
After the installation
After important modifications to the system settings and hardware configuration
At least yearly
For a correct calibration, at least a Gain Reference and a Defect Map are necessary.
These two reference files are created during the x-ray calibration process and saved in the folder References
(C:\Program Files\PixRad Software 7.*\bin\references).
The Gain considers both the reply of detector and the uniformity of the x-ray flow. Therefore, for a given
mode, it could be necessary to have different Gain references to cover various configurations (different SID,
presence or not of the grid, different orientations of the x-ray source...).
Concerning the Defect Map, only a file is required since it depends on the detector performances.
Before starting the calibration, check that the parameter level.sensitivity in the File Detector35643EZe.ini
(C:\Program Files\PixRad Software 7.*\bin\config\config_3543EZe) is preset according to the Pixium EZ
sensibility currently used.
Pay attention that no object is present in the x-ray beam between the source and the Pixium EZ (no
object, well opened collimator...).
The Pixium EZ should remain stable during the calibration.
Procedure:
The value concerning the parameter calibration.prepare.delay in the section [configuration.events] in the
file PIXRAD.ini (C:\Program Files\PixRad Software 7.*\bin\config\config_3543EZe) has been set at 10
seconds so that the equipment has the necessary time to perform exposure sequentially (status passage from
busy to ready).
Click the key XRay . Once the calibration is started, the following progress bar will appear:
Modify the mAs (according to the values found during the doses check) to get the required dose and click
Resume.
If it is not clicked in time, the following message will appear:
The bar under the progress one before the x-ray exposure request will become orange as in the figure:
After 10 seconds (as set in the file Pixrad.ini) it will be necessary to perform the exposure, start to
perform preparation at 7 seconds and perform the exposure at 10 seconds when the bar under the
progress one will become red.
It is important to be synchronized with the software timing in case of x-ray exposure during the
calibration phase. Otherwise, an error message to indicate that the received dose is too low/high depending on
whether the exposure had been performed before or after the signal provide by the software (red bar). The
calibration will finish once the percentage indicated near the progress bar has reached the 100%.
Once the calibration has been finished, the references files must be loaded (they will be saved in
the path C:\Program Files\PixRad Software 7.*\bin\references). Click the icon Load to load
the reference files (Gain and Defect Map) in the RAM memory.
Calibration MODE2
In the box Application mode check that MODE2 is
selected.
Click the icon Control, check that the Autotrigger mode is active and activate
Image Storage for saving the images that will be acquired once the calibration
has been finished.
Click to enable
Click to enable
Dark Calibration
The Dark calibration allows to acquire the offset reference for the preview image correction and the full
correction of the x-ray images.
Click on the icon Dark to proceed with the Offset calibration. The calibration will be performed
automatically by the software. A progress bar will be displayed, once 100% is reached, the message The
action finished successfully will appear. For ending the procedure, click the key Close.
The reference file is created during the Offset calibration process and saved automatically in the folder
References (C:\Program Files\PixRad Software 7.*\bin\references).
Gain Calibration
Thales recommends to perform the Gain calibration:
After the installation

For a correct calibration, it is necessary at least a Gain Reference and a Defect Map.
These two reference files are created during the x-ray calibration process and saved in the folder References

For every dose level perform 4/8 exposures (according to the set value). It will not be necessary to press
the key Exposure but it will be enough to press the x-ray handswitch (only in case the software exposure
has been set in the file serialNumber_Id_Config.xlm, in case it is hardware this functionality will not
be enabled).
For every exposure in the window a message that indicates if the issued dose is included in the foreseen
range appears. In positive case, accept the image by clicking Next and proceed with the following
exposures. In negative case repeat the exposure by modifying the parameters in order to enter again in
the foreseen dose range. The acquired raw images will be saved in the folder RAW (path:
C:\Imagers\Sample_Application_Files_32bit_Ver2*\FDX3543RPW_WITH_AED/FDX3543RPW_
WITHOUT_AED\Serial Number_Id\RAW), while the final images will be saved in the folder
Calibration (path: C:\Imagers\Sample_Application_Files_32bit_Ver2*\Calibration) ) only if
enabled by the configuration file of the panel SerialNumber ID_config.xlm present in the path
C:\Imagers\Sample_Application_Files_32bit_Ver2*\FDX3543RPW_WITH_AED/FDX3543RPW_
WITHOUT_AED\SerialNumber as indicated in the figure.
Click Image Display to open the image concerning the Gain calibration.
Remember to set again the parameters at “0” after the check of the images so that, during the
standard use, the images are not saved since they would cover useful space for the system.
If the calibration has been performed properly, at the end of the procedure, the key Complete will be
enabled and it should be clicked. Press Finish to finish the calibration process and return to the main
screen.
Once the Gain calibration has been completed in the path:
C:\Imagers\Sample_Application_Files_32bit_Ver2*\FDX3543RPW_WITH_AED/FDX3543RPW_
WITHOUT_AED\Serial Number_Id, the two files Gain.bin e Gain.map will be automatically
created.
Once these operations have been completed, by clicking To work it will be possible to proceed with the
exposures. Only if it is enabled from the configuration file of the panel SerialNumber ID_config.xlm
present in the path C:\Imagers\Sample_Application_Files_32bit_Ver2*\
FDX3543RPW_WITH_AED/FDX3543RPW_WITHOUT_AED\SerialNumber as indicated in the
figure above, the images will be saved in the folder image
(C:\Imagers\Sample_Application_Files_32bit_Ver2*\FDX3543RPW_WITH_AED/FDX3543RPW
_WITHOUT_AED\Serial Number_Id\image).
Remember to set again the parameters at “0” after the images check so that during the standard use
the images are not saved since they would cover useful space for the system.
Indicate the correct “PANEL_INDEX”, otherwise the communication will not occur.
The index is referred to the order in which the FPDs are indicated in the application TETD Sample
Application.
The order is not standardized, check the association index of the interfacing panel.
In case the non-interfaced panels are removed from
C:\Imagers\Sample_Application_Files_32bit_Ver2* the index would be always 1.
From Administrator enter C:\DeLuxe and click on the application DeLuxeConfig.exe as showed in figure:
Click the tab General and check that the parameters are set as per the following figure.
In case some modifications have been performed, click the key Save.
Move on the panel Generator X-Ray and check that, at the item Gen. Type, Mobil Technix is selected and
at the item Target Machine, if you are using a battery mobile equipment, select Battery Portatile Technix
(motorized); if you are using a mobile equipment connected to mains, select Net Portatile Technix (manually
driven).
In case some modifications have been performed, click the key Save and close, otherwise close simply.
From the path C:\Deluxe click on the icon UpdateDB .
A screen will open, click on UpdateDB, wait a few moments and close
the application.
FDX3543RPW with functionality AED presents the letter “A” at the last digit of the serial
number (S/N). FDX3543RPW, whose serial number presents the letter “A” in the last digit it must be
registered in “FDX3543RPW with AED”; FDX3543RPW whose serial number does not present the
letter “A” in the last digits, it must be registered in “FDX3543RPW without AED”
Open the file SerialNumberOld/Z00003_Config.xlm or SerialNumberOld/Z00005_Config.xlm
(it describes the configuration data concerning the panel FDX3543RPW) contained in the folder and
replace where there is the old SN or Z00003/Z00005 with the SN of the panel to be interfaced
SerialNumberID_config.xlm. Then, check that the IP address of the FPD is 192.168.95.57.
Check that the parameters are set with the values underlined in figure and check that the parameters set as
default are compatible with its own application.
Save and close the file
