General Education

I. Introduction

CONGRATULATIONS for enrolling in this course Life and Works of Rizal. Please read
this course guide carefully and completely.

DR. JOSE PROTACIO RIZAL’s life and works has been continuously studied and has
been part of every schools’ and universities’ curriculum because of Republic Act 1425
implemented in 1956.

The republic act, although is the main reason that it is included in the curriculum, to
render time to study the life of the hero is of great importance and worthwhile for every
Filipinos. To appreciate the freedom that we are experiencing these present times, we
should look back and see what others have paid for it; develop a sense of nationalism
and loyalty to our one and only country.

II. Course Analysis

Course Title : Life and Works of Rizal

Units : 3 units

III. Course Goal

The course aims to study the life and works of Dr. Jose and its relevance in
contemporary

Philippine Society. This aims to deepen and to strengthen the student’s sense of
nationalism by making the students realize their worth as a Filipino as exemplified by
Jose Rizal.

IV. Course Objectives

At the end of this course, the students are expected to:

1. Understand the reason for studying the life and works of Rizal as mandated by

Republic Act 1425.

2. To have a clear understanding of the Philippine situation during that era. 3.


Learn the life of Dr. Jose Rizal as a child, as a student, as a son and to
understand its influence in molding a leader.

4. Describe his work as a hero, a model and inspiration of the Filipinos.

5. Appreciate the foundation of the country’s independence and to display


nationalism through simple daily gestures.

6. Apply in general Jose P. Rizal ideals through persistent learning and love for
country and living in the light of the national hero’s “ang kabataan ang pag-asa
ng bayan.”
