INTRODUCTION.

The term 'cladding' refers to components that are attached to the

primary structure of a building to form non-structural, external surfaces. This is as
opposed to buildings in which the external surfaces are formed by structural
elements, such as masonry walls, or applied surfaces such as render.

Whilst cladding is generally attached to the structure of the building, it typically

does not contribute to its stability. However, cladding does play a structural role,
transferring wind loads, impact loads, snow loads and its own self-weight back to
the structural framework.

TYPES OF CLADDING.

1.WET CLADDING

Wet cladding is used in the area where water is mostly used all the time like
kitchens and bathrooms and the type of material used has low water absorption
rate like, vitrified tiles, marbles etc.

2.DRY CLADDING

Dry cladding is mostly used in facades, ceilings or dry walls of a building and the
cladding materials used are fixed with the help of different joineries.
USES

High-quality, well-designed, properly-installed cladding can be used to

maximize thermal performance, minimize air leakage, optimize
natural daylighting and maximize aesthetics of the building.

This can help reduce the need for mechanical and electrical building services, and
so improve energy efficiency and lower capital and running costs.

MODES OF APPLICATIONS

A cladding system can be installed using various methods

1.Attached system: In the attached system the large panels

forming the exterior cladding are directly attached to the
structural frame of a building having one or more stories or
bays. Figure 3 detail
The attached system is used to erect the precast concrete and source- pinterest

steel stud frames having exterior finishes.

2.curtain wall system: The curtain system is generally installed

in large and multistoried buildings this system is similar to
attached system but the panels are attached to structural frame
using clip angles instead of slab to anchors.

3.Infill system: The cladding panels are placed between

the columns of the structural frame spanning from one
level of slab to another Glass and concrete are some other
materials that can be used in infill system

GFRC/GRC CLADDINGS

Glass reinforced concrete (GRC), or glass-fibre reinforced concrete (GFRC), is

a construction material that is commonly used to form exterior cladding panels. It
has the ability to be formed into virtually any size, shape or profile

GRC is composed from high-strength, alkali-resistant glass fibres embedded in

a concrete matrix. The fibres act as the principal load-carrying component, while
the surrounding matrix keeps them in position, and transfers load between the
fibres.

Both fibres and matrix are capable of retaining their physical and chemical

identities, while combining their properties to create a high-
performance composite.

GRC panels are often used as a lightweight cladding system, and can be made to
look almost identical to natural stone. Installation is easier and more cost-
effective due to the lower weight of the panels, which is approximately 80%
lighter than pre-cast steel reinforced concrete cladding. This enhances the energy
efficiency of GRC , and it is capable of achieving a BREEAM A+ material rating.
