DEFINITION OF TERMS:

Seizure
- are episodes of abnormal motor, sensory, autonomic or psychic activity (or combination of these)
that result from sudden excessive discharge from cerebral neurons
- paroxysmal transient disturbance of he brain resulting from a discharge of abnormal electrical
activity

Epilepsy
- is a group of syndrome characterized by unprovoked, recurring seizures
- The International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) has defined epilepsy as at least two unprovoked
seizures occurring more than 24 hours apart

Anticonvulsant
- A medication used to control (prevent) seizures (convulsions) or stop an ongoing series of seizures.

Threshold
-is the level at which the brain will begin to have a seizure. A high seizure threshold means that a
seizure is less likely to occur, while a low seizure threshold means that a seizure is more likely to
occur.
-it can be measured by the time necessary for a seizure to occur, as the amount of anticonvulsant
drug necessary to induce a seizure, or as the number of stimulation required to induce seizure.

Emergency Cart (e-cart)


- is a set of trays/drawers/shelves on wheels used in hospitals for transportation and dispensing of
emergency medication/equipment at site of medical/surgical emergency for life support protocols
potentially to save a patient’s life.
