GROUP DISCUSSION: BLOOD TRANSFUSION

1. What condition might Anna have that is characterized by a low

erythrocyte count and hemoglobin level.

- Anna's condition could be Anemia since the symptoms have such low

erythrocyte count and hemoglobin level, both of this have been shown in

Anemia,a condition in which you don't have enough healthy red blood

cells to deliver enough oxygen to your body's organs and tissues. Anemia,

usually known as low hemoglobin, can induce fatigue and weakness.

Blood loss, decreased or impaired RBC production, and RBC destruction

are all common causes. Iron-deficiency anemia is by far the most

prevalent type. It can occur as a result of a nutrient-deficient diet, Crohn's

illness, or the use of certain drugs.

2. What are the major functions of erythrocytes, and what vital pigment

do erythrocytes contain?

Erythrocytes are a kind of blood cell present in the blood that is formed in

the bone marrow. Rbcs contain hemoglobin, a protein that transports

oxygen from the lungs to all areas of the body. The quantity of

erythrocytes in the blood is commonly measured as part of a full blood

cell (CBC) test. It can be used to screen for anemia, dehydration,

malnutrition, and leukemia. Its major function is to transport oxygen to

the tissues in your body. It is also known as RBC and red blood cell. Our
tissues release carbon dioxide as oxygen is converted into energy.

3.Why do women tend to have a lower erythrocyte count and hemoglobin

level than men?

- Women have a lower erythrocyte count and hemoglobin level than men

because the sex difference in mean venous hemoglobin  and red cell mass

is thought to be caused by a direct stimulatory effect of androgen in men

in the bone marrow in association with erythropoietin, a positive

inotropic effect of androgen on erythropoietin production in the kidney,

and an inhibitory effect of androgen. Androgens, or "male hormones,"

induce increased hemoglobin synthesis in the same way as they stimulate

increased muscle growth. It is also connected to the frequency of blood

loss to some extent. Women have lower red cell mass because of greater

efficiency in tissue oxygenation per unit red cell mass.

4.What general symptoms do individuals with this condition tend to

deanemia

- Tiredness or fatigue is the most common symptom of all types of

anemia caused by a low red blood cell count. Other symptoms include

shortness of breath, dizziness, headache, numbness in your feet and

hands, pale or yellowish skin, and chest discomfort.

5.How does diet play a role in preventing and treating this problem?
- Anemia can be temporary or it can be a long-term condition, depending on the type of
anemia diagnosed and individual health factors. Either way, good nutrition is an important
part of preventing and managing anemia. Eating a balanced diet can prevent iron
deficiencies It’s also essential to eat foods hgj in iron to hwlp manage anemia .
