Case Study:
Sexual harassment includes unwelcome sexual advances or requests for sexual favors and
comments, jokes, acts, or other verbal or physical conduct that is of a sexual nature or directed at
employees based on their sex. Despite the significant changes brought about by the #Me-too
movement over the past two years, harassment in the workplace is still a common-- and ugly--
problem. From unwelcome and offensive comments to unwanted physical advances and requests
for sexual favors, the #1 most common form of workplace harassment is familiar to us all. Still,
despite the visibility and empowerment of the #Me-too movement, many employees are
unwilling to report sexual harassment in the workplace.

This case study is about one of my neighbor who was the victim of the sexual harassment at the
workplace. The woman had a history of experiencing domestic violence and had suffered
psychological harm as a result, she had the sole financial responsibility for her children, her
financial state was so poor, and she needed the job badly. After giving many interviews, she got
the call from khan Construction Company. She didn’t give its second thought and started
working in a KHAN CONSTRUCTION COMPANY. The company makes houses, buildings in
many societies of Pakistan. The salary was quite good for my neighbor so she immediately took
that opportunity.

The first week of her job went quite good, nothing unethical happened. After the second week,
she undertook the training program alongside male workers and male supervisor. She noticed the
impudent behavior from male supervisor. First she ignored but then he started doing this
impudent behavior on regular basis. She felt very uncomfortable but not only this, he started
doing calls and text messages to her. The messages repeatedly stated that he likes her and made
unwanted expressions of his feelings and made excessive and bad compliments about her
appearance. Moreover he started telling lewd jokes to her and also made sexual comments about
her in front of all the male workers.

My neighbor was diagnosed with Adjustment Disorder and Mixed Anxiety and Depressed
Moods, arising as a consequence of the workplace sexual harassment. She also had a history of
experiencing domestic violence and had suffered psychological harm as a result; she had the sole
financial responsibility for her children. Her children were also affected because of all this. The
only reason the woman tolerated the lewd and disgusting behavior was because of her financial
position. Every day she worked she knew she would be humiliated and demeaned sexually by the
man, and it resulted in a diagnosed disorder causing her to be unable to work.

My neighbor decided to take a legal action against the company. She sues the company, and
during settlement discussions she is offered an extremely large monetary settlement. In the
agreement, the woman is required to confirm that the executive did nothing wrong, and after the
agreement is signed the woman is prohibited from discussing anything about the incident
publicly. Before the date scheduled to sign the settlement agreement, the woman's lawyer
mentions that she has heard the executive has done this before, and the settlement amount is very
large because the company probably had a legal obligation to dismiss the supervisor previously.
The company however wants to keep the supervisor because he is a big money maker for the
company. But my neighbor denied the settlement and she started fighting for her right. After
many problems she finally got justice and the supervisor was arrested, also the company was
fined a large amount.
