Assignment

1. Research about the Pitot static system.

An aircraft pitot-static system comprises a number of sensors which detect the
ambient air pressure affected (pitot pressure) and unaffected (static pressure) by
the forward motion of the aircraft. These pressures are used on their own or in
combination with each other to provide indications of various flight parameters.
The first pitot tube was invented by French engineer Henri Pitot back in the early
18th century, who used it to measure the flow of the River Seine.
Pitot pressure is measured in a pitot tube or pressure head, which is an open tube
facing forward along the axis of the aircraft. The pressure measured in the tube is
a combination of static pressure and pressure due to the aircraft forward speed.
Pitot tubes are carefully sited to reduce to a minimum error due to the flow of air
over the aircraft. Static pressure is measured through a number of vents, situated
at aerodynamically neutral points on the aircraft fuselage. Vents are sited on
either side of the fuselage and feed into a common tube; this has the effect of
cancelling out to some extent errors arising from the position of the vents.

2. What is the importance of Pitot Static System.

The principal flight systems are the pitot-static systems, as well as attitude,
electrical, hydraulic, and direction systems. The airplane would be unable to fly
safely without these equipment. The pitot-static system informs the pilot and the
flight control system about the aircraft's altitude and speed. The autopilot would
not be able to be used for anything other than navigation without this
mechanism. Because there are so many planes in the sky, altitude must be
strictly controlled, which is one of the reasons for greater airplane safety.

3. What are the flight instruments involve in pitot static system, and differentiate it
each other.
1. The Altimeter
This is used to measure vertical above a given datum. The altimeter is literally a
calibrated barometer set to read zero at ground level due to ambient air pressure.

2. The Vertical Speed Indicator

This is used to monitor the aircraft’s rate of climb and descent

3. The Airspeed Indicator
This is used to assess the aircraft’s speed through the air.

4. Explain how the pitot static system works.

The pitot-static tube has two openings, one in the front and one along the sides,
used to measure air, gas or liquid flow. This system involves placing a pitot tube
inside another tube with static ports. The front hole measures the stagnation
pressure, while the side openings (static ports) gauge static pressure. The
difference between these two measurements is called dynamic pressure - this is
what is used to calculate airspeed.
