BED BATHING

1. Introduce self
2. Assess the patient
- Check if there’s any skin condition, texture or any bruises. This is to modify the pressure to exert on the
patient skin.
3. Assemble the equipment;
 3 basin
 Bar soap
 3 wash cloth
 Gloves
 2 blanket
 Gown
 Grooming
4. Hand hygiene
5. Privacy
6. Offer a bedpan or urinal to the pt.
- In case of urgent urination.
7. Lower the side rail near you but keep the other side rail up.
8. Assist the client to move near
9. Put a bath cloth in the head of the pt.
- So the pt will not get wet on and to prevent discomfort to the patient.
10. Put a bath towel on the top sheet and other towel again in the upper body of the pt.
- This is prior in washing the pt face. And to reduce the embarrassment of the pt. since we’ll also be taking off
the top sheet and remove the gown.
11. Make a bath mitt with wash cloth.
12. Wash Face but first the eyes ( inner to outer cactus) w/o soap.
- Wash – forehead going down to cheeks up to ears and back of the ears w/soap ( both side ).
- Rinse also both side same pattern.
- Dry using the bath towel on the pt. head (pat pat)
 You have to be gentle in washing the face and also to assess if there’s any sign of bruises or skin
break.
13. Wash Neck
- Wash in up and down motion with friction w/soap
- Rinse same pattern
- Dry using bath towel on pt. head (pat pat)
14. Wash Arms and Hands
- Removing the bath towel on the pt hands and place it on the arms.
- Wash – start from wrist going up – 3 strokes. Last is armpit
- Rinse- same pattern
- Dry using the bath cloth

Hands – get the soaking basin and wash. \ rinse and dry. Both side. SAME PROCEDURE.
15. Wash Chest and abdomen
- Expose only 1 part muna of the chest
- Take out the bath cloth on arms and place it on top for additional warmth.
- Wash – starting from the other upper side to lower going to middle and other side of the middle. Then lift
the breast and clean under
- Rinse same pattern.
- Dry.
- Do it also on the other side.

Abdomen- wash it from farthest and downward and slide.

- Rinse same pattern


- Dry .
16. Washes the legs and feet then dry
- Expose 1 leg and bent
- Wash starting from distal to proximal clean 4 sides with different side of wash cloth and clean thoroughly
the popliteal area. Last is the inguinal
- Rinse
- Dry

Feet – soak the foot of the pt.

- Check if theres any calluses


- Rinse
- Dry

17. Washes the back and the perineum – back massage.
- As cleaning the back we need the client to turn its back on us. we position the client.
- Have someone assist.
- Wash first nape and rinse and dry
- Back-- use every side of the bath mitt, up to down motion

Buttocks – cover first the back. – cleaning should be downward use of bath mitt

- Focus on spave in buttocks.. soap every side


- Rinse and dry..

So if the client prefer to apply powder on the back then we can apply.

Massage—efphlorage.. kapogment, petrissage.

Remove the bath towel and put on hamper.

Now, were going to put a new gown as for this, If the client has iv fluid. Insert first the iv fluid then the arm and second is
the other arm and tie the gown we are also going to change the bath blanket with top sheet. Just like what we did in first
procedure
