A Good
Snowboard

Most people confuse snowboards from skiing
boards. The two are not the same. Both sports are done
by sliding down the mountains nonetheless. While skiing
involves two boards and poles, snowboards involve a
single board and the right pair of shoes.
The front part of a snowboard is called a nose while the
flat side is the tail. The bottom side is called a base and
must be waxed regularly to reduce frictions as you
snowboard. Like all sporting equipment, the quality of
the board matters a lot.

Most snowboards are made of wood for good
durability. They are then laminated with fiberglass
on top and plastic on the base. The edges are mostly
designed from thin layers of metal to add strength to
the other materials.
If you purchase your snowboard on a good site,
you’ll probably get a one-year warranty, assuring
you of a new board should yours break apart too

well.
Snowboarding Styles

JIBBING
This technical style involves performing
tricks on non-standard surfaces. The moves
and tricks are evident in the name itself
‘jib’ which as a noun means metal rails,
boxes, benches, concrete ledges, walls,
vehicles, rocks and logs. As a verb it means
jumping, sliding and riding on top of
objects. It is basically freestyle
snowboarding and takes place not only on
the snow but in an urban setting as well.

Rail Jam is a major jib event and
riders perform tricks on rails,
boxes, pipes, wall rides and
several other creative features.
The score is done in the jam
format, where riders can take as
many runs as they want within
the given time frame.

SLOPESTYLE
This style involves performing tricks
while going downhill on a course. The
course is generally filled with
obstacles such as boxes, rails, jumps
and jibs. The slopestyle competitions
allows the rider to choose their own
line in a terrain park and in order to
win, the rider must pick the most
difficult line and perform a smooth
routine of tricks performed on the

obstacles.
BIG AIR
Riders that go for the Big Air style perform tricks
after launching off a man-made jump, built
specifically for it. Riders perform tricks in mid-air
while attempting to achieve sizable height and
distance and finish off with a smooth landing.
Performers are judged based on the height and
distance attained during the launch and the
difficulty of the tricks showcased in the air.
Hard carves
Steep slopes
The need for speed
Narrow chutes
As much powder as you can find
Tree runs
Jumps and tricks off natural lips
This definition, in my opinion is more in line with what a freeride snowboard is and
what a freeride snowboard is designed to do.
Stiff: A stiff board is more stable at high speeds, has better edge hold for hard
carves
Floats well in powder
Usually has some camber in the profile (which is better for edge-hold and stability)
Has a tapered directional shape (designed to go one way down the mountain in an
aggressive way)
Almost always has a sintered base for more speed and better gliding on flat spots

Freestyle
SLIDESMANIA.COM
FreeStyle
It is the most popular type of snowboarding for its thrills and tricks of the sport.
Freestyle focusses on jumps, tricks, rail slides, halfpipes and switch riding. It is
more suitable for professionals as the techniques are mostly aerial. Snowboarders
use softer boots to reduce weight for easier manoeuvring in the air and the

snowboards are shorter, lighter and softer with the tail and tip identical in shape.

Clothes
Temperatures change constantly
in the mountains. The best kinds
of clothes to have while
snowboarding are jackets and
pants that don’t absorb sweat.
That means no cotton. Wool,
leather and synthetic materials
are better.

Clothes
Because of the changing temperatures, it’s good to have
different kinds of clothes. Waterproof jackets and pants
come in handy when it starts to rain or as you sweat. A t-
shirt and jumper are great when the weather is warm
while ski gloves are important all of time. Having an extra
layer of protection from extremely low temperatures
with gloves for snowboarders is very essential. It ensures
safety and comfort during all activities in the snow. Direct
contact to the snow is never good even during warm
weather, so always have your gloves on.

Guards and

snowboarders experience
injuries to the wrists, knees, and ankles
as they learn how to snowboard. If you
would want to protect these parts of the
body, invest in appropriate guards and
pads. Knee and butt pads are readily
available online and cheaply. Most
people underrate wrist guards but they
can mean the difference between having
safe hands or a twisted wrist in the
evening.

If you are willing to spend more for your safety,
there are a lot of optional equipment you could
purchase. A neck gator keeps your neck safe in case
you fall. Headbands cover your ears and other parts
not covered by a helmet. Glove liners add comfort
and add grip in case you fall and need to use your
gloves for support.

Camera and GPS Tracker
Whether it’s the serene slopes or your
friends sliding in action, there are a
lot of moments that deserve capturing
on a camera. If you need help with
your pics post holiday then
try fixthephoto. Make sure you carry a
good camera that can capture distant
objects clearly. If you love videotaping
everything, why not? Have your
friends tape as you snowboard down
the mountains.

Camera and GPS Tracker
In addition to your camera, don’t forget your GPS
tracker. It’s easy to get lost in the mountains. Make it
easier to be tracked should you get lost in the woods.
You can always carry your smartphone for contacts
but don’t rely on it. Batteries lose charge and most of
them can’t even get a connection the moment you
start climbing the mountains.

This style is performed in a semi-circular ditch dug into
the mountains or purpose built ramp made up of
snow with walls. Riders perform tricks while going
from one side to the other and while in the air above
the sides of the pipe.

Boarder Cross
Also known as ‘Boarder X’ and
‘Snowboard X’, it is relatively a
new addition in the snowboarding
industry. In 2006, it earned its
place as an official Winter
Olympic sport. In Boardercross ,
a number of riders race down a
course similar to a motorcycle
motocross track. The course is
