Inductive reasoning
a method of drawing conclusions by going from the specific to the general

Examples
1. It snows in my town so it
snows everywhere around the
world.
2. Every fish I’ve seen has blue
eyes so all fish have blue
eyes.
3. I have only seen birds in
California so birds only live
in California.
Theme
the central idea of a work

Examples:

1. The book focuses on themes of dark romance, loss, and historical


fiction.
2. Mary had to buy a costume so that she could attend a Marvel
themed party
3. Ross had no idea that the theme of the movie was going to be
horror.
Trope
a figurative or metaphorical use of a word or
expression (hyperbole, metaphor, and
personification are some examples of tropes)

Examples:

1. An example of a trope is a damsel in distress.


2. Another example of a trope is the trusty
sidekick.
3. Another example of a trope is the wise old man.
Examples:

Epigram “It is better to light a candle


than curse the darkness”

Logos
Definition: Appeal to reason or logic.

1. Logos is when one uses statistics, data,


or facts to convince one of something.
2. An example of this is, the amount of
rainfall this year has drastically
decreased 15% according to the National
Weather Service.

Antecedent 1. The antecedent is
also referred as a
