Key Concepts: Producing a heat sensor alarm that will alert people when there is a possible rise
of fire occurrence.
Strand and Section: STEM 2A - CALLISTO
Teacher: Mr. Albert Panergayo

Project Goal: The project goal of this research is to enhance everyone’s alertness on possible
fire accidents so that one day in the future, there will be no more fire accidents
that will occur in every home.

Description: There are many cases around the world pertaining to fire accidents that causes
disaster to a lot of people which opens up way for the researchers to create an
alarm that will alert people if there is a rise in temperature especially on fire
hazards that may cause fire. This product is designed with cost-effective and
reusable materials to lessen its production cost. Its simple design will make this
product more useful for a lot of people as it consists only few materials with
great aid to fire sensibility. This product will be created to help in a way of
lessening and preventing fire accidents that may happen in the future especially
on areas in which most fire occurs.
Rationale To keep abreast with the demands of the fast-changing times, the Bureau of Fire
Protection has to embark on the necessary changes of preventing and obviating
the outbreak of devastative fires, execute relevant laws, and provide emergency
and medical services, which is vital to society's safeness and development.
In view of this, there is a need to improve in facing uphill struggle in providing
alternative ways to at least lessen the rate of injuries, casualties and preventing
Page 1 of 6
damage and human suffering due to alarming number of household fire victims
burned down by fire. We believe that this fire alarm would be most beneficial to
all family, students and to society who would be using this, because having these
safety alarm will aid them in the pursuit of being cognizant, which will be their
stepping stone in dealing effectively with the challenges in fire preventing.
Despite all the safety measures that government has to offer, this kind of
improved fire alarm will be an eye opener to allocate, improve and enhance
existing knowledge in unravelling fires crisis.

Physics Principles: Our product which is a fire alarm is link to physics concept which is work,
energy, and power because of the process when thermal energy is transmitted to
the wires to the alarm. The conserved potential energy to make a sound will be
triggered by the process of transforming of heat or thermal energy (from the
fire or smoke) to chemical energy (from the battery) to mechanical energy (to
the buzzer). Gas Law pertains to the change in the pressure inside the
aluminum soda bottle as the heat surrounding it will rise when there is a fire
near the alarm, simply explaining that as the temperature inside the bottle
increases, the pressure also increases.

Materials and •Buzzer – an audio signaling device that can be found in any hardware stores.
Resources: •Aluminum soda bottle- an empty aluminum bottle that will receive the heat
signatures for the alarm which is available at any department stores or can be a
reusable junk material.
•Battery- provide energy to the entire device, it can be found at hardware stores.
•Furnace Air Pressure Switch (0.9 - 10mbar)- recognize the change in air
pressure that will initiate to sound the alarm, it can be found at hardware stores
also.
•Multimeter- measures the current produced by the Furnace Air Pressure
Switch, owned by a group member.
•Long nose plier- used for the attachment of wires to each component, can be
borrowed from an electrician.
•Driller- used for making a hole to the aluminum bottle, can be borrowed from

an electrician also.
•Shielded wire- composed of braided strands of copper that connects each
components of the alarm, can be found at hardware stores and scrap materials.
Each material that we are going to use are commonly available in our homes
especially the tools that are needed. However, the consumables can be found in
scrap materials. Then the other equipment that we are going to use can be
bought on hardware shops in cheap price.

Methodology: This project will be focused on the capability and functionality of the fire alarm
in identifying and recognizing fire signals. Identifying the most vulnerable areas
to fire will be done in order to know the most common catalysts of fire
accidents. The researchers will work on to the building process of the product
through gathering of needed materials and putting it all together. The process
will be done as follows:
1. Gathered the required materials: buzzer, aluminum soda bottle, battery,
furnace air pressure switch, multimeter, long nose plier, driller, and shielded
wire.
2. Using the multimeter, attach it to the furnace air pressure switch and use a
syringe to test if the furnace air pressure switch is working.
3. Make a hole on the cup of the aluminum soda bottle using the driller and
attach it to the tube of the furnace air pressure switch.
4. Use the long nose plier on the shielded wires to connect each component
(Furnace air pressure switch, Buzzer, Battery)
5. Apply heat on the surrounding area of the aluminum soda bottle to test if the
device is working.

The data that will be gathered through the experimentation will be the reaction
time of the alarm in detecting fire by using a timer to record the needed data.
The data will be analyzed by using statistical methods and table to determine
the effectiveness and relationship of the data gathered in the overall
functionality of the product. This research will be limited to the time of the
alarm detection and the performance of the product when used in real situation.
