1. About this manual


This manual is intended for the safe installation of the grid-support utility-interactive photovoltaic inverter
(hereafter the inverter). Carefully read the safety precautions and work procedure before installing the
inverter. Store this manual in an accessible area for those who will be installing the inverter. Refer to the
Instruction Manual for information on the safe operation of the inverter.

This manual as well as the markings and labels in the inverter contain very important instructions to prevent
harm and/or injury to workers and operators. It also provides information on how to safely and correctly install
this inverter. Read this document carefully to understand the meaning of the markings and symbols that are
used.

This manual contains important instructions for the inverter that shall be followed during
installation of the inverter.
1.1. Explanation of markings and symbols

1.2. Limitation of use, disclaimer and disposal

■ Limitation of use

This product is intended to be used as a grid-connected inverter for photovoltaic generation. Any
other use is prohibited.
Make sure to consult with TMEIC in case a change in system specifications occurs (e.g. changes in
related equipment or other circumstances that may require adjustments to be made to the entire
system).

■ Disclaimer

TMEIC assumes no responsibility in the following cases.


・ Accidents or damages that are caused by nature (i.e. earthquake, fire, lightening, flood, etc),
unauthorized third party, and/or deliberate or unintentional misuse.
・ Damage or losses accompanied with the operation or non-operation of this product (e.g. loss of
profit, halted business, etc).
・ Damage caused by using this inverter in a different way as described in the instruction manual.
・ Damage caused by incorrect operation of or in combination with equipment procured outside of
TMEIC’s responsibilities.

■ Disposal

Disposal of this inverter or any of its components shall be done by a specialist in industrial waste
disposal. Improper disposal may result in explosion or generation of noxious gases, resulting in injury.

Additionally, local regulations regarding disposal of industrial equipment shall be observed.

TMEIC assumes no responsibility for any damage due to improper disposal or any other improper
use.

2. Safety Precautions
2.1. Installation environment

DANGER
■ Do not install the inverter where flammable or explosive gases are present

There is a risk of explosion and/or fire due to sparks that could be generated from
circuit breakers or contactors.
Forbidden

■ Provide enough space(※) for operation and maintenance when installing the
inverter

Sufficient clearance is required for maintenance space. It also assures sufficient air
flow, and could cause damage or fire due to over temperature if the clearance
space is reduced. Mandatory
※Refer to “Installation clearance” in section 5.2 for details.

CAUTION
■ Do not install the inverter in locations that are exposed to extreme
temperature/humidity variations

Extreme operating conditions and condensation may cause performance

degradation and/or equipment failure Forbidden

Do not install the inverter in an environment outside of the following requirements.

Requirement of Installation Environment:


Ambient temperature: -25~50℃
Relative humidity: 5~95%

■ Do not install the inverter in places where it can be subjected to vibrations


(※1) or shocks (※2)

failure.

CAUTION
■ Do not install the inverter in places that are exposed to air containing salts,
corrosive gases (※) and/or vapor containing water or oil

If installed in places where one or more of the above elements is present,


contact failure in circuit breakers and switches may occur, and may lead to
performance degradation and/ or equipment failure. Forbidden

■ Do not install the inverter in locations with considerable amount of fine


particles that may contain iron and/or organic compounds.

It may cause insulation failure, contact failure in circuit breakers and switches,

■ Do not install the inverter in altitudes over 4000m. Over 2000m : derating

The withstand voltage is reduced at high altitudes and could lead to performance
degradation and/or equipment failure.

■ This inverter must not be used in residential areas


This inverter may cause interference with household appliances if used in
residential areas. Such use must be avoided unless the user takes full
responsibility and proper measures to prevent interference with radio and Forbidden
television broadcast signals.

■ This inverter is only for use in a closed electrical operating area

This inverter does not measure the residual current. Refer to section 5.3 for further
details.

■ Only Type B residual current detection (RCD) or monitoring (RCM) devices are allowed

This inverter can cause a dc current in the external protective earthing conductor.
Were a residual current detection (RCD) or monitoring (RCM) device is used for
protection in a case of direct or indirect contact, only an RCD or RCM of Type B
is allowed on the supply side of the inverter.

2.2. Transportation

CAUTION
■ Do not apply a mechanical shock over 1.5G to the inverter
A shock over 1.5G may cause performance degradation and/or equipment
failure.

■ Do not expose the package frame to salt water or rain

Salt water and rain may enter the enclosure and cause performance degradation
and/or equipment failure.

■ Do not transport, move or place the inverter in the horizontal position

Heavy internal components such as transformers and reactors will be subjected

■ Do not store the inverter in locations that are exposed to extreme
temperature/humidity variations
Extreme storage temperatures and condensation may cause performance
degradation and/or equipment failure.
Forbidden

Do not install the inverter in an environment outside of the following

requirements.

Requirement of Storage Environment:


Ambient temperature -35~50℃
Relative humidity less than 95% (No condensation)

■ The inverter must be stored indoors

The inverter shall not be stored outdoors and exposed to rain, wind and/or
condensation (produced by temperature variation) to prevent performance
degradation and/or equipment failure unless it has been fully assembled with its Mandatory
input and output terminals sealed and roofs installed. Note that the inverter roof
is shipped separately from the main unit.

■ Do not store the inverter in locations with considerable amount of fine


particles that may contain iron and/or organic compounds
It may cause insulation failure, contact failure in circuit breakers and switches,
performance degradation and/or equipment failure.

2.6. Installation and wiring of the inverter

DANGER
■ During installation, do not incline the inverter at angles more than 10°
If the inverter is inclined at angles more than 10°, it may fall causing injuries and/or
damage.
Forbidden

■ The inverter must be connected to ground

Ground the inverter through the terminal marked “Grounding Electrode Terminal”.
If not grounded, insulation degradation may cause current leakage and create a
risk of electric shock.

Ensure a ground resistance of less than 5Ω. Terminal

■ Use IEC 61730 Class A rated photovoltaic modules only


Class A modules are mandatory for transformerless inverters

■ After completing the installation and wiring work, make sure that all
protective covers are put in place

There is a risk of electric shock and injury if protective covers are not installed.

■ Install the inverter on metal, concrete or other non-combustible surfaces


There is a fire hazard risk if installed on other than non-combustible materials

CAUTION
■ When performing installation and wiring work, install the roofs of the
inverter before the unit is exposed to external weather conditions to prevent
dust and/or water from entering. Roofs are shipped separately from the
inverter.
Mandatory
Dust and/or water inside the inverter may cause failure in the insulation and
contact failure in switches and circuit breakers, causing performance degradation
and/or equipment failure.

■ When performing installation, wiring, maintenance work, be careful not to


damage fragile parts (louvers, glass window, etc.).

■ Do not sit on, climb on or step on the ceiling

The enclosure can be damaged creating a risk of electric shock due to


reduction in internal clearance.

■ Do not perform installation and wiring work in locations with considerable

5.1. Inverter installation environment

Inverter and related equipment should be installed according to the installation environment standard
detailed in Table 5.1
Not adhering to this standard may result in degradation of insulation and other effects leading to
reduction in lifetime and/or equipment failure.
It is recommended to measure and evaluate environmental conditions at the installation location prior
to inverter installation. In case there are parameters that do not comply with the specifications,
corrective measures should be taken prior to inverter installation.

■ When cleaning the area where the inverter is installed, use an electrical vacuum cleaner to
prevent rubbish and dust from getting into the air.

■ Do not use silicon type wax on the floor or other places adjacent to the inverter.

5.2. Installation clearance

■ Provide enough space for operation and maintenance when installing


the inverter

Sufficient clearance is required for maintenance space. It also assures


DANGER sufficient air flow, and could cause damage or fire due to over temperature
if the clearance space is reduced.

Provide the following clearance for maintenance.


Note that the required maintenance space may change due to applicable standards or local
regulations enforced in the region where the inverter is installed.

5.3. Electrical Requirements

(1) Grid Connection Step-up Transformer


Minimum requirements for a two-winding grid connection transformer are as follows:
- Galvanic isolation between windings is required.
- Only delta and ungrounded wye connections are allowed for the secondary (inverter side).
- The secondary winding (inverter side) should not be grounded at any point. Impedance grounding is also
not allowed.
- Shield between high voltage winding and low voltage winding is required. Shield should be connected to
the protective earth (PE) of the transformer.
- Impedance between primary and secondary should be more than 3% and less than 7%.
- When the dc circuit is grounded intentionally or accidentally, the phase to ground voltage of the
secondary may have a peak up to 110% the maximum dc input voltage (1500V).
- The transformer should be rated more than the capacity of the Inverters connected at secondary side.
- Other requirements may apply. Ask your TMEIC representative for further transformer requirements.

(2) Insulation Monitoring


This inverter does not measure insulation resistance or insulation impedance. Insulation monitoring should
be installed by the user when required by local regulations. Installation instructions may vary depending on
type, connections and dimensions. Some devices may not be possible to install inside the inverter and some
may not be compatible. Please contact our representative for further details.

(3) Residual Current Detection (RCD) or Monitoring (RCM) Device


The inverter is not equipped with a residual current detection (RCD) or monitoring (RCM) device. An RCD or
RCM device should be installed when required by local regulations. The inverter can cause a dc current in
the external protective earthing conductor, therefore only an RCD or RCM of Type B is allowed on the supply
side of this inverter.
Installation instructions may vary depending on connections and dimensions. Some devices may not be
possible to install inside the inverter and some may not be compatible. Please contact our representative
for further details.

CAUTION Salt water and rain may enter the enclosure and cause performance
degradation and/or equipment failure.

The package frame provides good protection for the inverter during transportation. However, observe
the following precautions
(1) Do not apply an impact or shock to the package of over 1.5G.
(2) Do not expose the package to salt water or rain.

■ When storing the inverter before/after installation for a prolonged period of time,
protect the inverter from humidity
In case the inverter is not protected from humidity, rust may appear in components and
may cause performance degradation and/or failure. Repair work would be required.

Take one of the following protective measures against humidity


(1) Place desiccant inside the cabinet (Refer to the table below).
(2) Reduce the humidity inside the cabinet using a space heater or a similar device.
(3) Reduce the humidity inside the cabinet by periodically operating the inverter under
no-load conditions.

9. Unpacking

9.2. Main contents of the package

(1) Outer vacuum wrapping encloses the entire inverter. Remove the wrapping in order to locate the
fork pockets for lifting.
(2) Bubble wrap is used to protect displays, and other instruments located on the cabinet surface, and
to protect paint when necessary.
(3) The inverter’s intake openings are protected with a plastic sheet secured with plastic tape to prevent
dust from entering the cabinet.
(4) Whenever a wooden packing material is in contact with a painted surface, a felt is located in
between to protect the surface from scratches.

9.3. Unpacking location

Unpack in a paved floor indoor. If possible, unpack close to the location of installation.
Secure sufficient space for forklift or pallet-jack.

9.4. Guidelines for unpacking

(1) Remove the outer vacuum wrapping of the inverter for transportation. Keep the inverter in storage
conditions specified in section 8 until all packing material is removed, and protective cover and
roofs are installed.
(2) Before opening and dismantling the package, carefully observe the entire package structure and
the internal parts. Then proceed carefully not to scratch or damage the inverter.
(3) The packing list number may be destroyed when opening the package, thus confirm the correct
packing list number before opening the package, and retain it for future reference.
(4) Prepare all the necessary tools and list up the sequence to be followed before unpacking.
(5) Do not apply direct mechanical shock or vibrations to the inverter with hammers or other tools
when opening the package
(6) Do not remove the information attached to the inverter until installation is complete.
(7) Be cautious when opening the package since it contains small parts that may be lost or
accidentally disposed of.
(8) In you notice any abnormality, damage or lack/excess of components, contact us with the
packing list number, inverter serial number, quantity and all the necessary information as soon as
possible.

9.5. Guidelines after unpacking

(1) Check all parts according to the packing list


(2) Verify that the inverter does not have any scratches
(3) Do not remove the plastic cover from the spare parts and accessories until they are intended to be
used.
(4) Do not remove the plastic cover from the inverter until installation is completed. Do not touch the
inverter with hands or gloves that are stained with grease or oil. Do not touch the internal
components of the inverter under any circumstance.
(5) Be sure to properly dispose the packaging material after unpacking.

9.6. Transportation after unpacking

■ The inverter should be lifted using the spreader bar.

Remove the roof and install the spreader bar for lifting.
DANGER The roof is not designed to withstand the weight of the inverter. There
is a risk of injury and/or damage to the inverter

The inverter can be transported using a forklift.

The center of gravity is in the middle of the cabinet as indicated with labels attached to the cabinet.
Space for the fork is provided in the fork pockets in the base of the inverter. Insert the forks into the
pockets as shown in Fig. 9.2. Make sure that the forklift’s maximum load is large enough to carry an
inverter.

Do not attempt to lift the inverter without using the fork pockets when using a fork lift.

10. Inverter Installation


10.1. Cabinet base and tolerance for the skid
Establish a reference line from the reference point and measure the distances, angles, inclinations and
levels involved. Install the cabinet base after verifying all measurements. Please refer to the layout
diagram in the attached documentation for further details.

(1) Tolerance for distances measured from the reference line to the upper part of the cabinet base
is +0.5mm. The upper part of the cabinet base cannot be below the surface (reference line) in
cases where the cabinet base is embedded.
(2) Mark the location of the fixation holes according to the location given in the layout diagram (Fig.
10.1) and verify with a theodolite or a transit that the elevation of each point is equal with a
tolerance of 1mm.
(3) The inverter must be set on a flat surface. Use extra caution on the angle in the direction
between the front and back side of the inverter cabinet. A slight tilt could have detrimental
effects on the inverter operation and lifetime. Refer to the tolerance illustrated Fig. 10.2.
(4) Install the inverter onto the skid with proper dimensions and leveled surface.

11. Fixation of the Inverter

■ During installation, do not incline the inverter at angles more


than 10°
DANGER If the inverter is inclined at angles more than 10°, it may fall
causing injuries and/or damage.

(1) Place the inverter in the designated installation area.


(2) Align the cabinet
Align the front side of the cabinet using the holes located in the base of the cabinet using a pinch
bar (Fig. 4.3) and fix it with the corresponding bolt.
(3) Tighten the bolts.

Instructions for DC cable installation

Punch the holes in the bottom plate for DC cable entries straight down from the connecting point at the terminal
so that the cables can be installed as straight as possible. If a pair of P and N cables enter from one place
together and connected to each terminal separately, the bent cables will apply stresses to the terminal plates
and may results in damages to the components. After the cables are installed, cover the gap in the entry hole
with flame-resistant putty, etc.

Precautions for AC Cables installations


After the cables are installed, cover the gap in the bottom plate with flame-resistant putty, etc.
If there are any small openings between the bottom plate and enclosure, fill them too with putty, etc.
※If there are openings, dust, moisture, small animals, etc. may enter from there. (Excluding the drain hole)

Be careful not to damage other components inside the unit when laying cables.
※ In particular, note that the items shown in the illustrations below are reported to be damaged sometimes due
to contact with cable lugs or other tools during connecting external cables.

■ The inverter must be connected to ground

If not grounded, insulation degradation may cause current leakage, thus


posing a risk of electric shock.

14. Cleaning of the inside of the inverter and its surroundings


(1) Use a vacuum cleaner to clean inside the inverter and its surroundings to remove the remaining of the
packaging material, and wiring work.
(2) Collect all spare parts and accessories. Store all items properly under supervision.
(3) If the inverter will not be operated immediately after installation is completed, protect its openings with
plastic covers or equivalent means to protect dust from entering the cabinet.

15. Inspection after installation and wiring work


After cleaning up the surroundings, perform the following inspections, and record all findings.
(1) Verify that there are no paint damage or scratches on the inverter.
(2) Verify that all bolts and screws are tight and have the appropriate torque marks.
(3) Confirm that external cables and wires are connected according to the drawings.
(4) Verify that all desiccants and anticorrosives were removed from the inverter.
(5) Verify that there are no tools or materials left inside the inverter.
(6) Verify that the protective film on the top opening of the inverter is removed.
(7) Verify that the protective covers are properly installed in cabinets
(8) Verify that the packing material is removed from the external surface of the inverter.
