My pedagogy integrates the seven learning styles such as kinaesthetic, verbal, visual, aural, logical, interpersonal
and intrapersonal learning to best support and engages all students within their learning. I always add a
kinaesthetic learning task (tactile learning), a teaching strategy to support the cognitive, social and physical
developments of students, especially to keep the high ratio of boys within the class engaged in their learning
(1.5.2). I believe students learn best by implementing a hands-on approach to learning. Hands-on learning is
learning by doing, thus allowing students to directly observe and understand what is happening, process the
information being taught and be actively engaged in their learning. Kinaesthetic learners aren't necessarily suited
to the traditional classroom. Young students tend to learn best when they are physically active, or through learning
activities that involve active participation. As a result of this style of learning approach, students are engaged and
improved student learning outcomes were observed (1.1.2).

I believe that children need to develop and understand the core basic concepts in mathematics before they can
move forward in their mathematical learning. Without these solid foundations, they are more likely to have gaps in
their knowledge and require intervention in their primary years. Therefore I believe in implementing well-structured
and methodical numeracy programs to develop students’ knowledge in mathematics (3.2.2 & 3.4.2). Student data
drives my programs to differentiate student learning and teaching strategies. Using formative and summative
assessments such as teacher observations and conferencing along with Best Start, ALAN2, and Mathsonline.
Additionally, I make student observations, collect student samples and reflect and evaluate my own teaching
practice to drive my planning and programming in numeracy. (3.6.2)

By assessing and evaluating my programs ensures I keep myself accountable to ‘best teaching practices and to
keep informed as to where students are at and where are they going in their learning. The assessments are
documented by uploading data to ALAN2, additionally, I keep hard copy records in an assessment folder and
having collegial discussions with my supervisor. (3.6.2)

I introduced ‘Mathsonline’ a web-based online program to the school to further engage students in their learning
along with implementing ‘Mathsonline’ as an assessment tool. Mathsonline is a program that promotes students to
develop skills in information technology, to support students to be critical thinkers, engaged students in problem-
solving and learning can be differentiated for every student (3.3.2). In addition, I use Mathsonline as an
assessment tool and have seen improvement in students learning.
