Animal abuse and cruelty have been through this world since the
Stone Age when humans started to hunt or poach animals, but it has
recently increased over the following decades (21st century-2000s).
Illegal activities like hunting/poaching, animal black market, animal
captivity, etc are still active in many countries.
Animal Cruelty and Abuse is divided into sub-topics and the most
critical topics are pet abuse, poaching, hitting and whipping while
animal performances. In this issue, we will focus more on how
animal abuse and cruelty are encouraged.
One of the most common causes, why animals are poached, is due to
their rare parts, skins, fur or bones so they can be sold at high prices
for profit. Animals are not treated well in society and after many
laws, people still are encouraged to abuse animals. An example of
poaching or hunting is elephants for the ivory trade.
There are countries like Algeria, Belarus, Iran, Morocco, etc where
the legislation focuses more on animal health than animal welfare.
The animals that are sick or not healthy are slaughtered and this is
most common in farms. Due to the consumption of animals, a lot of
animals are slaughtered and Belarus is the top of all where there is
high consumption of farm animals. Countries slaughter over 40
animals per person per year which is high in comparison to the global
average. Animals in zoos and circuses are hit when they don’t obey
what their trainer is saying which is against the animal protection
law.
Another example of animal abuse is animal captivity where people
trap animals in cages and food and water is also not provided to the
animals. This clearly shows us that a lot of animal protection laws are
not obeyed by the public and they are encouraged to do more.
Animals have a really bad effect due to humans and laws are also not
followed which is illegal. Animals who are captivated are going
through depression and anxiety. Another crime regarding animal
captivity is wildlife captivity. Captive animals do not learn survival
skills and are bound to see humans near them all time.
Animals in zoos, circuses and the ones who are captured are not
given food and water most of the time and because of starvation
they die which imbalances their population and they might become
endangered.
The animals hunted are not allowed to live their parts are ruptured
and skins and bones are sold at high prices. Animals like elephants
are becoming endangered and their ivory is also rare but people still
hunt them down. Another example could be tigers which are hunted
or poached for the unique and royal pattern of their skin.
This data shows us that already a lot of animals are endangered but
if we continue to use them for entertainment purposes it could lead
to a really bad state for our world and imbalances the cycle of
nature.
