What is Jive?

The jive is a dance style that originated within the United States from African Americans within
the early Nineteen Thirties. The name of the dance comes from the call of a shape of African American
vernacular slang, popularized in the 1930s through the guide of a dictionary through Cab Calloway, the
well-known jazz bandleader and singer. In opposition ballroom dancing, the jive is frequently grouped
with the Latin-inspired ballroom dances, although its roots are primarily based on swing dancing and now
not Latin dancing.
