WHAT IS RESEARCH?
Positivist: This type of research is also called “classical action research.” It considers
research a social experiment. This research is used to test theories in the actual world.
Interpretive: This kind of research is called “contemporary action research.” It thinks
that business reality is socially made, and when doing this research, it focuses on the details
of local and organizational factors.
Critical: This is a sort of action research that takes a critical approach to corporate
systems and tries to enhance them.

HOW ACTION RESEARCH IS DONE?
1. Plan
- Construct a plan of action or project plan based on problem to be solved and review.
2. Action
- Take action on plan
- Exploratory-descriptive study or Experimental-intervention study
3. Observe
- Assessment of actions; did it work or not based on the data or results
- Collection of qualitative and quantitative data
4. Reflect
- Reflect on the results and the implications of the results
Action research is a distinct kind of research that is different from other traditional
educational research.
It is constructivist, situational, practical, systematic, and cyclical (Efrat and Ravid,2013).

– Action researchers aim to understand the unique context of their studies and the
participants involved.
Practical
– The questions that the plan to investigate should be based on their own concerns and
professional areas of interests.
Systematic
Cyclical
– It starts with a research question and ends with the application of the knowledge gained
that leads to new questions and a new cycle of research.
