Introduction:-

-What is the Green manufacturing ?

Green manufacturing establishes renewable production processes and

environmentally friendly practices in manufacturing businesses. The processes
help limit a manufacturer’s impact on the plant, enact positive change, and
encourage other businesses to follow suit. it is the “greening” of manufacturing, in
which workers use fewer natural resources, reduce pollution and waste, recycle and
reuse materials, and moderate emissions in their processes.

Green manufacturers research, develop, or utilize technologies and practices to

lessen their impact on the environment. As detailed by the Bureau of Labor
Statistics, workers at green companies must have specific manufacturing
training in green technologies and practices such as:

5
1. Energy from renewable sources: generate electricity, heat, or fuel from
renewable sources for use within their establishment. These sources may
include wind, biomass, geothermal, solar, ocean, hydropower, landfill gas
and municipal solid waste.
2. Energy efficiency: Workers will utilize specific technologies and
practices to improve energy efficiency within their establishment.
3. Pollution reduction and removal: greenhouse gas reduction, and
recycling. Workers will use green technologies and practices to:
 Reduce or remove the creation or release of pollutants in their
operations
 Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
 Reduce or eliminate the creation of waste materials
 Collect, reuse, recycle or compost waste materials
4. Natural resources conservation: use of specific technologies and
practices to conserve natural resources, such as those related to organic
agriculture, land management, and soil, water, or wildlife conservation.

So we took Dell company for green manufacturing project so Lets dive in.

6
Introduction of Dell:-

Dell Inc., formerly PC’s Limited (1984–88) and Dell Computer Corporation
(1988–2003), global company that designs, develops, and manufactures personal
computers (PCs) and a variety of computer-related products. The company is one
of the world’s leading suppliers of PCs. Dell is headquartered in Round
Rock, Texas.

The company, first named PC’s Limited, was founded in 1984 by

American Michael Dell, who was then a student at the University of
Texas in Austin. Initially
running the business from a
dormitory room, Dell started
out providing customized
upgrades for PCs. The
venture proved profitable, and
Dell dropped out of college
that same year to begin
7
building PCs. In 1985 the company released the Turbo PC, the first computer
featuring Dell’s own design. Founded on the premise of creating and selling
custom-built PCs directly to consumers, the company initially sold its products
through advertisements and mail-order catalogs. By avoiding the costs associated
with traditional retail markets, Dell was able to offer high-quality PCs at
competitive prices. Dell emphasized customer support, sending technicians to
service PCs and implementing a policy of risk-free returns. This business model
proved successful, and the company quickly grew, expanding into international
markets. The company, renamed Dell Computer Corporation, went public in 1988.

Founders of Dell:-

Michael Saul Dell (born February 23, 1965) is an

American billionaire businessman and
philanthropist. He is the founder, chairman and
CEO of Dell Technologies, one of the world's
largest technology infrastructure companies. He is
ranked 20th richest person in the world
by Bloomberg Billionaires Index, with a net worth of US$60 billion as of February
2022.

Dell was born in 1965 in Houston, to a Jewish family. His parents were Lorraine
Charlotte (née Langfan), a stockbroker, and Alexander Dell, an orthodontist.
Michael Dell attended Herod Elementary School in Houston. He would go on to
attend Memorial High School. In a bid to enter business early, he applied to take
8
a high school equivalency exam at age eight In his early teens, he invested his
earnings from part-time jobs in stocks and precious metals.

Dell purchased his first calculator at age seven and encountered an

early teletype terminal in junior high. At age 15, after playing with computers
at Radio Shack, he got his first computer, an Apple II, which he promptly
disassembled to see how it worked. Dell attended Memorial High School in
Houston, selling subscriptions to the Houston Post in the summer. Dell's parents
wanted him to be a doctor and in order to please them, he took up pre-med at
the University of Texas in 1983. Dell continued learning to target specific
populations for newspaper subscriptions rather than just making cold calls, and
earned $18,000 that summer. He hired several employees, and after earning a gross
profit of nearly $200,000 in his first year of business, Dell dropped out of the
University of Texas at age 19.

And after that dell get a great success in computer sector

Green manufacturing in DELL:-

Dell is one of the biggest names in the computing business, producing hundreds of
thousands of laptop and desktop machines every year, along with monitors and
other peripherals, Dell hopes to set an example across the industry in terms of
reducing its impact on the climate and the environment a mission driven in large
part by the vision of its Head of Experience Design, Ed
Boyd

Boyd has some ambitious plans to massively reduce the

electronic and other waste produced by the company over
the coming years. “By 2030, for every product a customer buys, dell will reuse or
recycle an equivalent product, and 100% of our packaging and more than half of
our product content will be made from recycled or renewable material.

Dell had the ideas that are currently being developed within the company to help
transform the currently problematic methods used to recycle our old tech.
10
Even the largest recycling centers typically outsource a huge amount of labor to
other facilities, due to the complexity of working with the hundreds of different
materials that go into our mobile and computing devices – and by the time these
materials have traveled to more specialized facilities across the world to be
processed, your ‘recycled’ tech may have caused more emissions and pollution
than you think.

What is Dell Outlet doing to be Green?

Dell Outlet is committed to maximizing the re-use or recycling of all returned Dell
products. Dell Outlet refurbishes and sells over 90% of all returned Dell systems.
The remaining 10% of returned Dell product is resold for parts or recyclable

11
materials (metal, glass, and plastic). Dell's goal is to become the greenest
technology company on the planet. We at Dell Outlet believe it's important to
consider the environmental impact at every stage in the product life cycle.

What is Refurbished?

Dell Outlet offers three types of refurbished inventory:

12
Certified Refurbished PCs are laptops and desktops that have been returned to
Dell, put through the production process, and then again retested to ensure they
meet all original factory specifications. Certified Refurbished systems may have
some observable cosmetic blemishes, but they will not affect performance.

Previously Ordered New computers are PCs that were shipped out to a customer
who opened the box, but decided to return the system without ever using it. All of
these computers have undergone testing and repackaging by Dell Outlet.
Previously Ordered New systems do not have any cosmetic damages.

Scratch and Dent products are systems with considerable cosmetic blemishes that
do not affect performance. They are a great way to save money while still enjoying
Dell Outlet's rigorous rebuilding and testing process. Scratch and Dent computers
will not have scratches or pits on the screen, missing or illegible letters on the
keyboard, or damage to the touchpad or palmrest.

All refurbished products sold through Dell Outlet include a 30 day Return
Policy and a limited hardware warranty.

13
Why Buy Refurbished?

Refurbished systems don’t use as much new material or as many new parts as new
ones do, which can reduce the environmental impact of your technology purchase.
And you can’t beat the quality and value of a Dell Outlet product: Dell Outlet
offers some of latest Dell products at a great low price, offers the same limited
hardware warranty1 and service as if you bought new, and offers you a 30 day
Return Policy. Plus, we’re fast: Dell Outlet systems are built and ready to ship, so
most products ship within 24 hours of order approval. So, why Dell Outlet? Why
not! Dell Outlet offers you the same great products at an even better price, while
helping to reduce your impact on the environment. What’s not to like?

What is Dell Corporate doing to be Green?

 Dell is now powering 100 percent of its 2.1 million square-foot global
headquarters campus, home to more than 10,000 employees, with 100
percent green power, the latest step in meeting the company’s 2008 carbon
neutral commitment.

15
 Dell, in partnership with The Conservation Fund and Carbonfund.org, has
launched ‘Plant a Tree for Me,’ a program that makes it easy and affordable
for individuals, corporations or even entire communities to “go zero” by
making a donation to help offset their carbon emissions associated with the
electricity generated to power an extended portfolio of IT products – simply
by planting trees. Additionally, participants can help offset the estimated
total one-year carbon impact of an average person by donating $99 to the
program.

 Dell offers the only free consumer recycling and takeback program across
the globe, and they also have developed a program called Reconnect with
Goodwill Industries. This program not only allows people to donate their old

computers rather than throw them away, but also provides jobs for people in
the recycling industry.
 It’s Dell’s goal to provide the most energy-efficient technology in our
industry. One of Dell’s big pushes was to build laptops whose displays
16
used LED backlights. LEDs can make a laptop more power efficient. Most
importantly, though, power-sipping LEDs give what all customers want the
most – long battery life.

Conclusion:-
Adoption of Green Manufacturing technologies is not just a social obligation but a
growth catalyst. Moving towards a green manufacturing has the potential to
achieve sustainable development and eradicate poverty on an unprecedented scale
with speed and effectiveness. It will require a sustained effort on the part of policy
makers and their constituents to rethink and redefine traditional measures of wealth
prosperity and wellbeing. A green manufacturing economy substitutes clean
energy and low carbon technologies for fossil fuels, which addresses climate
change, creates jobs and reduces import dependencies. New technologies
promoting energy and resource efficiency provide growth opportunities in new
direction to make green jobs a reality, implementation of a strategy to train
manufacturing workers on the principle of energy and resource conservancy is
imperative so that the manufacturing sector avoids waste of resources and ensures
a healthy environment and dell made good initiatives and doing the Best work to
attain their goals in Green Manufacturing.

Thank you.
