The Cybersecurity in the Modern World

During this pandemic, everyone is having a hard time adjusting with the new
system, leading them to feel unmotivated. These days, the only way we can cope
up with everything is by using the internet especially for communicating with our
friends or loved ones. I can even say that I am one of those people who uses the
internet up to 12 hours a day to entertain myself and to distract myself from any
negativity surrounding me. However, due to the increasing demand and to the
new innovations happening this year, the internet feels more unsafe or unsecured.

Today, I will give you some tips and information on how we can be more safe and
secured when using the internet.

The first tip I can give to you is to practice safe browsing.

You should not visit unknown and dangerous sites online because most
cybercriminals use it as a bait that can cause you to expose your own personal
data or even infect your device with dangerous malware. If you’re able to make
sure that you are only using safe sites, your risk of being a victim of cybercrime
will decrease.

Make sure that your internet is secure by using secure VPN connection.

To be sure that you are secured and to improve your internet browsing safety, you
should use a secure VPN connection or what we called Virtual Private Network). A
VPN will enable your device to have a secure connection with the internet server
that prevents someone from monitoring or accessing the data that you are
inputting on the internet. This may cost some money but it is better than
exposing your data that can lead you to lose more money.

Next is to keep your personal information limited.

You should not give purely personal information to strangers especially to the
internet which can be accessed by millions of people. Keep the information you
give limited to your family and friends and you should avoid exposing it to
anyone you don't know.

Be careful on who you meet online.

You should be cautious on who you meet on the internet because they are not
always who they claim to be and they may not even be a real existing person. I
met many people online but I always try to check if they are reliable but at the end
we should make sure to not give any personal information about ourselves that
can lead us in danger.

Be careful of everything that you download online.

The malware that we can download online can be super dangerous not
only for our devices but also for our personal security. These malwares can
be disguised as an application or any popular games. It can lead your
personal information to be stolen. Therefore, you should not download
apps that look suspicious or apps that came from untrusted sites.

Lastly, choose a strong password when signing up.

You should create a strong password that is harder for the cybercriminals to
demystify. It should be unique and complex containing at least 15 characters,
numbers, and special characters. You should avoid passwords such as your
birthday, your pet name, or random numbers such as 123456789.

By practicing the tips given above, you can reduce the chance of these
cybercriminals attacking you. We should remember that everything in your life
doesn't rely on the internet and we should also allot some time for ourselves and
for our family. The best tip I can give is to avoid using the internet as much as you
can because a better life is happening around you and you may not even notice
it since you are focused on your phones, laptops or tablets. Play with your pets,
practice some hobbies, read books, meditate, and exercise. In this way, you can
improve yourself while protecting yourself from the dangerous internet.
