I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of this exercise, students must be able to:

a) Visualize Data with the use of different graphs and charts
b) Interpret data summarized in various graphs and charts

II. BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The data analytics process has some key components that are needed for
any initiative. By combining these components, a successful data analytics
initiative will provide a clear picture of where you are, where you have been
and where you should go.

Descriptive analytics helps answer questions about what happened.

These techniques summarize large datasets to describe outcomes to
stakeholders. By developing key performance indicators (KPIs,) these
strategies can help track successes or failures. Metrics such as return on
investment (ROI) are used in many industries. Specialized metrics are
developed to track performance in specific industries. This process
requires the collection of relevant data, processing of the data, data
analysis and data visualization. This process provides essential insight
into past performance.

Predictive analytics helps answer questions about what will happen in the
future. These techniques use historical data to identify trends and
determine if they are likely to recur. Predictive analytical tools provide
valuable insight into what may happen in the future and its techniques
include a variety of statistical and machine learning techniques, such as:
neural networks, decision trees, and regression.

Prescriptive analytics helps answer questions about what should be done.

By using insights from predictive analytics, data-driven decisions can be
made. This allows businesses to make informed decisions in the face of
uncertainty. Prescriptive analytics techniques rely on machine learning
strategies that can find patterns in large datasets. By analyzing past
decisions and events, the likelihood of different outcomes can be
estimated.

Data visualization is the representation of data or information in a graph,

chart, or other visual format. It communicates relationships of the data with
images. This is important because it allows trends and patterns to be more
easily seen. With the rise of big data upon us, we need to be able to
interpret increasingly larger batches of data. Machine learning makes it
easier to conduct analyses such as predictive analysis, which can then
serve as helpful visualizations to present. But data visualization is not only

important for data scientists and data analysts, it is necessary to

understand data visualization in any career. Whether you work in finance,
marketing, tech, design, or anything else, you need to visualize data. That
fact showcases the importance of data visualization.

III. EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE

1. [Single Line Graphing] Graph the given information as a line graph:

10 Year Savings in Bank

Year ₱ in Bank
2018 6000
2019 8000
2020 5000
2021 7000
2022 5000
2023 3000
2024 2000
2025 1500
2026 6000

Reading Pie Graphs] Answer the questions based on the pie graphs provided.

1. Did Daniel and Sarah get

more votes than Kelly and
Miles or did they get an
equal number of votes?
Answer: Kelly and Miles
has more votes than Daniel
and Sarah
2. If there are 200 students
that voted, how many votes
for Miles?
Answer: 30
3. What Percentage of
student voted for either
Lizzy or Piper?
Answer: 10% of the student
voted for Lizzy while Piper
has 14% more votes than
Lizzy
4. Combined, which two
students have the most
votes?
Answer: Kelly and Sarah
5. Who got more votes,
Daniel or Sarah; or did they
get an equal number of
votes?
Answer: Sarah has more
votes than Daniel

6. If there were 100 customers

that were tracked, how many
bought chicken toppings?
Answer: 12
7. Combined, which two toppings
did the greatest number of
customers choose?
Answer: Olives and Spinach
8. What percentage of customer
chose either beef or the
salami?
Answer: 13% of customer
chose beef as their toppings
while 10% of customer chose
salami
9. Were spinach and olives
picked more than the ham and
chicken; or where they equally
bought?
Answer: Yes, spinach and
olives picked more than the
two toppings
10. Between spinach and olives
which two toppings was more
popular; or were they equally
popular?
Answer: Olives was more
popular than spinach

5. [Interpreting Pictographs] a local baseball team tracked its homerun over the
seven months. Answer the question based on the pictograph below

GJPRosales
Page |8

1. How many homeruns were recorded in both January

and April? 65

2. What was the mean or average number of homeruns

per month? Round your answer to the nearest 32.86
hundredth if necessary

3. Which two consecutive months had the greatest

number of homeruns? If multiple consecutive months April and May
tied, write them all

4. How many homeruns were recorded in both May and

February? May – 35 and
February – 55
with the total of
90
5. Were more homeruns hit during the months of March
and April or in the months of June and July? Or were March and
there equal number of homeruns? April

IV. QUESTION AND ANSWER

1. Cite reasons why do we need to summarize data?

Not all people can fully understand data gathered. Some may be too
lengthy but when summarized it becomes much more comprehensive. Filtering
out unnecessary information in the data lessen workload and makes processing
insights more efficient.

2. Why is Analytics being important?

Analytics help us better understand data gathered in order to formulate

discoveries depending on how it is interpreted.
