What Do We mean by data Interpretation
 What do we mean by data interpretation?
 We should move from:
 Report
 To query
 To measurement
 To dashboard
 To “Tell the story”

end users understand rational behind your ratios and figures.
 For example:
 Salary average: 3000
 Employees % below average = 60%
 “Telling the story”: We noticed that around 60% of employees are
below average, so you should create a root cause analysis, and
enhance salary structure and R&R matrix to map between them
Meter based measurements
 The rational behind the Meter based measurements is to focus
on the measurements that affect your decision making to
achieve objectives
 Car as an example:
 Driver has a meters board, always seen and carefully noticed
by him
 Each meter has both healthy and risky ranges
 The driver should take corrective actions, before the risky
status
 The corrective actions may be changed, if he can’t cover the
mitigation plan to reduce the impact of the risk
RGY Model
 Absolute measurements is useless without references
 Red/Green/Blue are the key reference points to our
measurement
 Red Meaning:
 If you reach this point, you are not on track, and have risk,
so you should implement risk mitigation plan
 Green
 You are on track on achieved your objectives, without
known risks, cause risks may come from external parties
 Yellow:
 You have a deviation, that will increase in the future and
cause the real risks and damages, so you should take the
corrective action early as possible.
RGY Method - Cont
 So: We should define
 Green reference
 Yellow reference
 Red reference
 Action plan for Yellow points
 Action plan for Red points
 How to define GYR reference points?
 Historical data
 Expert judgement
 Board objectives
 Empirical process
 Marketing surveys
 Action plans:
 What shall you do to prevent the damage?
 What shall you do to mitigate the impact?
Bar-chart Race Model
 What is Bar-Chart race?
 Dynamic bar-chart model that represent the evolution
of values between different objects over the time, so
that they call it a race.
 Steps:
 1. Data model
 2. Data attribute
 3. Object attribute
 4. Pivoting with matrix date columns
 Advantages:
 Smooth Building evolutionary model over the time
between large amount of objects
 Tool:
 Flourih Studio
 Power BI

RGY: Measurement matrix
 What is the meaning of the measure?
 Why we got this measure value?
 What is the comparative model of the measure?
 What is the time-series of the measure?
 What if the measure ?
 How to enhance the measure?

Storytelling process
 Storytelling is extremely different than data
visualization.
 It’s about how to represent long/silly data in visuals
 Data visualization is in charge presenting the data in its
suitable statistical graph according to its nature,
targeting professional users, like pie chart and bar
chart
 Storytelling is 22 times more memoizable than
traditional ways
 Storytelling is about delivering a clear messages and
answers for questions to the audience using shapes
and visuals inherited from the data itself.
 Additional friendly visuals for audience and content
types enrich the model, which is inherited from the
content, like cars, employees and stock shapes
 #Storytelling in more user friendly, for normal people
rather than experts
Storytelling process key pillars
Storytelling Model: What to storify?
 Organization Level
• The objectives journey, mapped to resources,
cost, revenues, with comparing previous behavior,
and forecasting the future
Organizational Level
 Business Unit Level
• Plans vs resources, with relevant processes
improvements, and forecasting the future
