Part 1 (Voltage, Current, Resistance & Power)

1. If a current of 80.0 mA exists in a metal wire, how many electrons flow past a given
cross section of the wire in 10.0 min?

2. An electric heater carries a current of 13.5 A when operating at a voltage of 1.20 x

102 V. What is the resistance of the heater?

3. A subwoofer needs a household voltage of 110 V to push a current of 5.5 A through

its coil. What is the resistance of the subwoofer?

4. A light bulb has a resistance of 5 ohms and a maximum current of 10 A. How much
voltage can be applied before the bulb will break?

5. A potential difference of 12 V is found to produce a current of 0.40 A in a 3.2-m

length of wire with a uniform radius of 0.40 cm. What is the:
(a) resistance (R) of the wire?
(b) resistivity (ρ) of the wire?

6. The cost of electricity varies widely throughout the Philippines; P 10.41/kWh is the
current value. At this unit price, calculate the cost of:
(a) leaving a 40.0-W porch light on for 2 weeks while you are on vacation,
(b) drying a load of clothes in 40.0 min in a dryer with a load resistance of 2.67 ohms
connected to 120 V.

7. A copper wire has a resistance 15.0 Ω at temperature 14℃. After a current passes
through the windings, the resistance rose to 16.5 Ω. To what temperature was the
wire heated?

Part 2 (DC Circuit)

Given the circuit below find the following:
a. Equivalent Resistance
b. Total Current
c. Current passing thru each resistor.
d. Voltage drop across each resistor.
e. Total power dissipated
