Website Project

Part 1: Create an account on www.weebly.com.


 Weebly is a free, online tool we can use to build our e-Portfolios.
1. You need to provide Weebly with your full name, email address and a password to
create an account.
2. On the screen with Add Site – select “I just need a website”.
3. Choose a theme for your site and select Start Editing.
4. Next you need to select your domain name.
 We recommend that you use your CCBC ID number for your site name (e.g. 900123456)
 Click Search
 Select Choose under Subdomain – this is free. (You do not need to pay for an account.)

 Learn how to use Weebly.


There are many more tutorials available online. Do a Google search to look up “How to”
tutorials for Weebly.
 Create Pages for your website.
1. Create a new page called “My Home” – use a standard page with a header. (2 points)
2. Delete ALL the pages included with the template. (2 points)
 Select the page you want to delete then choose “Delete”.
3. Click the + and add the following four (4) Standard pages without a header. (4 points)

 Operation Systems
 File Management

Part 2: Create a Homepage


 Post an introduction of yourself on the Home page of your website. (12 points)
1. Use a title element and create a title for your homepage. (2 points)
2. Use a textbox to post an introduction of yourself. Your introduction must be at
least 60 words. (4 points)
3. Include at least one Image on this page. (2 points)
4. Include a location Map of CCBC. (2 points)
5. Include a Contact Form element on this page. (2 points)

Part 3: Cloud Computing page - Refer to the readings for answers


Scenario: Tanesha’s company is looking at options for migrating some of their web servers to a
cloud service. However, no one on the team currently knows much about cloud providers and what
kinds of Platform as a Service (PaaS) services they offer.

Research three providers that Tanesha’s company might use to host their web servers. Research the
PaaS services each of these companies provided and the cost associated with these services.

1. Create a document in Microsoft Word that summarizes your research.


• Create a table that lists the name of the cloud service provider, the services
provided and the cost of these services. (6 points)
• Name and save the document as Cloud Computing Research.
2. Use a title element and create a title for your page. (1 point)
3. Upload the Cloud Computing Research document to this page in Weebly as a Scribd
Document element:
 Scroll down to the Media section found on the left of the screen. Drag the Scribd
Document icon to the right side of the screen. This uploads the document and
displays it on the screen. NOTE: If the Word document does not upload, save it as
a PDF file and try again. (2 points)
4. Upload the Cloud Computing Research document to this page as a downloadable file.
 Drag the File icon to the right side of the screen. This creates a downloadable
link, so you have access to the actual file. (2 points)
5. Use a text box to provide the URL for all resources used. (2 points)

Part 4: Accessibility page - Refer to the readings for answers


Scenario: Ken Chao is a veteran returning to school after six years in the military. After an injury that
affected his sight, he finds it difficult to read text on computer screens. However, many of his
classes require online research.
 How can Ken complete his assignments effectively? Research programs and apps that Ken can
use to assist him.
 How can web browsers become more accessible for people with low vision like Ken?
1. Make the Accessibility page a subpage of the Cloud Computing page. (2 points)
2. Use a title element and create a title for your page. (1 point)
3. In a textbox list and describe at least two (2) programs/apps you researched that can
help Ken complete his assignments. (4 points)
4. Use another textbox to list at least two ways web browsers can become more
accessible for people with low vision. (4 points)
5. Include a YouTube video demonstrating a tool that Ken can use. (2 points)
6. Use a text box to provide the URL for all resources used. (2 points)

Part 5: Operating Systems page - Refer to the readings for answers


Scenario: Yasmin Hamid is a first-year college student. She is trying to decide if she should
buy a PC, Mac, or Chrome Notebook. She wants a fast and secure operating system that will
allow her to complete her assignments. Note: the focus of research is the operating system.
 Evaluate and compare reviews of PC, Mac, and Chrome notebook operating systems.
 Recommend a PC, Mac, and Chrome notebook that you suggest she should consider
purchasing. Provide an overview of the features, pros and cons, and security features of
each operating systems and describe why you recommend this operating system.

Scenario: You work with a lot of different documents in your internship with a software
development company.
 What kinds of actions can you take to keep your files and folders organized?
 Discuss the importance of file names, folder names, and folder structures in keeping your files
and folders organized.
1. Use a title element and create a title for your page. (1 point)
2. Post a YouTube video that explains the best way to organize your files and folders. (2 points)
3. Use a text box to provide a 3-4 sentence summary of the video. (4 points)
4. Use a textbox to discuss the importance of file names, folder names, and folder
structures. (4 points)

Part 7: Publish and submit your site URL

1. Change the title for your site from My Site to FirstName LastName. This option is located on
the top left corner of the Home Page. (2 points)
2. Publish your site and create your URL if you did not do so in step 1. (2 points)
3. Submit the link to your website to your instructor through the Brightspace assignment tool.
