Career-forward opportunities waiting for international students

Here is an opportunity to work with New Zealand and multinational organizations on real world
problems as part of the University of Auckland’s 3-week virtual microinternship programme. You
will be supported by interactive learning content and dedicated mentors.

What is a virtual microinternship?

A virtual microinternship is a 3-week programme with around 10-15 hours of work per week,
designed to accelerate your professional growth.

You'll be working in a team of five students to tackle a business challenge for an Auckland-based
employer. Each team will be provided with a dedicated mentor, to coach and support you
throughout the programme.

The programme includes an online induction and briefing session to get to know your team and the
project you will be working on together.

Everything can be accessed virtually through the online platform provided by University of Auckland
where you can connect with your team, access and submit documents, as well as receive feedback
from your mentor. At the end, you will get the opportunity to present your findings.

During this virtual microinternship, you will:

● Understand what it’s like to work in the NZ business context
● Receive professional mentoring and training
● Build your professional profile and grow your network
● Gain relevant NZ work experience to add to your CV

New Zealand companies which have participated in this programme include:

● Auckland Council
● Auckland Transport
● Auckland Unlimited
● BDO
● Deloitte
● KPMG
● Mercury
● Orion Healthcare
● PwC
● Samsung
● Vodafone

You will be assigned to a team of 4-6 students, based on your study background and time zone.

This microinternship is held online so you can join from wherever you are in the world!

“The University of Auckland Virtual Microinternship has truly
been an enriching experience. The first and foremost learning I
gained through this internship was the skill of efficiently
working in a team. My team consisted of individuals from
different parts of the world and hence we had to overcome
challenges such as different time zones to work together.
Together we learnt to manage conflicts and navigate solution-
oriented conversations. I have formed a great network of
enthusiastic and curious individuals from all over the world,
thanks to this internship.
My team members also had different educational backgrounds
and by realising our strengths and weaknesses, we formed a
dynamic system to work together in the most efficient way.
We used the team's collective knowledge of business
frameworks, international relations, statistics, economics, and
marketing to yield the best results possible. Therefore, every
person took home something new after every team
brainstorming session. Our mentor gave us invaluable
feedback that helped us understand what the real business
world expects from students and young professionals.
Overall, I am very thankful for this opportunity to have
contributed and learned from this internship.”
