PLANNING FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF COLLEGE OF NURSING.

 INTRODUCTION :
Modern nursing is dynamic, therapeutic and education process in meeting the health needs of the individual,
family & community. A nursing education at technical college aim to fulfill to primary goal :-

 1st goal is to prepare nursing student to become registered nurse by6 taki8ng and passing the national
council licensure examination.
 2nd goal is to prepare student to become dedicated and competent professional nurse.

The planners have to frame the objective mission, philosophy, guidelines. Based on the guidelines issued by
INC.

 MISSION :
 Mission is highest level of description, why the organization is exists and what aim to be achieve.
 Mission identifies the basic function of an organization/agency.

Characteristics of mission statement:

 Short: Not more than one/two sentence.


 Inspiring: To call people for action.
 Durable: Time plan fixed.
 Specific: Toward goal achievement.
 Alive: Know to everyone.
 Clear: Intensions & word to be known.
 Feasible: Neither too high to achievable, nor too low.
 Precious and self-explanatory: Not to restrict, not to wide.
 Return form: Known by personal.
Mission in nursing:

 The mission/purpose of college of nursing is to prepare nurses to practice professional nursing that
meets the dynamic health care needs of individuals, families group & community.
 To provide better quality of care.
 Promotion of self-care concept.
 Leadership quality.
 The mission of nursing services is to deliver quality nursing care based on individualized need of the
patient & there families.

 PHIOLOSOPHY:
On setting-up new nursing. One of the first things to be done is that of formulating the school philosophy &
objective of college of nursing. These are written statement of belief and value which are agreed upon as a
group. The carefully reading of mission will usually provide a good understanding of institutional philosophy.
Thus, the philosophy will determine:

 Preparation of faculty.
 Development of curriculum.
 Selection of student.
 Attitude toward patient, community, personal life.

Formulation of philosophy:

To formulate the statement of philosophy the staff should hold the discussion, identify the area in which they
wish to make a definite statement, then belief & come to decision as to what is desirable & feasible in the
interest of student, the college, the public, the profession.

Guideline for the preparation of statement of philosophy of college of nursing is as follow:

 An education philosophy state the value which are believed to be write, true & good by the persons
responsible for the college.
 It should be written, included in appropriate document and reviewed periodically.
 Philosophy should not be stated in vague (Not clear) & useless term.
 Conflicting philosophies b/w overlapping cause and should be avoided.
 The education policy will be unique to be particular society & individual itself.
 All staff should be formulation of the school/college philosophy.

 OBJECTIVES & GOALS:


After the formulating the philosophy, objective are formed based on the philosophy. Each institution has to
decide on its philosophy & then write the goal and objective.

 Objective should be known, understood & accepted by both teacher and student.
 Education objective for college of nursing is based on information gather from the three major source
i.e.
- The need of society in nursing services
- The need of student.
- The expertise of subject concerned.
 The objective of programmer should be attainable goal and should be stated clear, meaningful &
acceptable student and faculty.
 The overall programme objectives should cover all aspect of curriculum. Objective should be reviewed
and revised by faculty as it become aware of change in the nursing need of society.

 GUIDELINES AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO ESTABLISH AS PER INC NORMS


COLLEGE OF NURSING:
STEPS/GUIDELINES FOR ESTABLISH OF NEW B.Sc (N) COLLEGE OF NURSING:

1. Formulation of board of management.


2. Formulation of philosophy of college of nursing.
3. Obtaining permission from the state government.
4. Obtaining permission from the Indian Nursing Council (INC).
5. Obtaining permission from university.
6. Preparing infrastructure and the other facility.
7. Administration & curriculum development.
8. After the receipt of permission to start the nursing programme from the INC the institution shall obtain
the approval from the state nursing council & university.
9. Institution will admit the student only after taking approval of the state nursing council.

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENT TO ESTABLISH BSC (N) PROGRAM:

 Building:
- College of nursing should have separate building.
- For a college with an annual admission capacity 40 to 60 student.
- Adequate hostel/residential accommodation for student & staff should be available.

 Class room:
- There should be at least four class room.
- It should be well ventilated.
- Proper lighting.
- There should be built in black & white board available.
- There should be desk/dais/big table & chair for teacher and student.

 Department College should have Following Departments

 Fundamentals of Nursing including Nutrition.


 Medical Surgical Nursing.
 Community Health Nursing.
 Obstetric and Gynecological Nursing.
 Child Health Nursing.
 Psychiatry and Mental Health Nursing.

 Laboratories:

 Nursing foundations and medical-surgical


 Community health nursing, Nutrition
 OBG and pediatrics
 Computer with 10 computer
 Preclinical science lab (biochemistry, microbiology, anatomy and physiology).

 Auditorium:

 Should be spacious enough.


 It can utilized by host the function of the college educational conference/workshop etc.

 Multipurpose Hall:

 College of nursing should have multipurpose hall, if there is no auditorium.


 Library:

 Separate library for the college.


 Should have proper sitting arrangement for 60 students.
 At least 10 sets of book in each subject to facilitate for the students.

 Fire Extinguisher:

 Adequate provision for extinguishing fire should be available as per the local bye-laws.

 Playground:

 Playground should be spacious for outdoor sports like volleyball, football, badminton.
 Canteen: There should be a canteen for the students, their guests, and all other staff members.
 Transport: College should have separate transport facility under the control of the Principal.

 Residential Accommodation:

Residential family accommodation for faculty should be provided, according to their marital status. Telephone
facility for the Principal at her residence must be provided. Residential accommodation with all facilities is to
be provided to the hostel warden.

 Crèche:

There should be a crèche in the college campus.
