How does it feel to have an old father?

My father was 43 when I was born.

The age difference between my mom and dad is around 14 years.

My father got married when he was 42 years old, so that was a wonder to everyone. Many
people questioned me about my father's age, why he looked so old.

Everyone tried, again and again, to put me down by showing their young fathers. Many
people asked my mother shamelessly,

“Your husband looks so old. Did you face any problems due to this?”
My mother proudly replied,

“I'm lucky enough to have him in my life!”

Many people went way too far that they questioned my father's health and showed concern on
my future by connecting both with our ages.

But most of them didn’t know,

This 64-year-old retired Professor of Sanskrit Prof.Kamalendu Misra has one of the most

energizing life that one can imagine. From early days till now, from taking classes of students
to going to market, everything is managed by him very cleanly.

He has sacrificed all his comforts just to give us a comfortable life.

From not having a shelter to owning one of the most secure shelter, from having a messed up
life to an organized life, from not having money to pay bills of electricity to give his kid the
happiest education possible, this person has given his everything to us.
These wrinkles on his face are nothing but the indicators of his true struggle.

Many people don't know but,

He married late just to have enough stability to quench our requirements and fulfill our
dreams. My uncles and other family members didn't support us and they got separated
from us because of property conflicts. This old man, left all his property to his brothers and
sisters who do absolutely nothing to maintain a family except selling the lands and
properties which my father had earned and donated to them.

I'm proud of my father for his true dedication towards his family. After dedicating 42
year's and getting absolutely nothing except harsh words from his family, got eradicated
from the property, still didn't lose hope to show them his real power by giving us a
comfortable life and teaching his all hard-earned life lessons to his kid is what defines my
father.

Proud of you, dad. Love you a lot.

What did you do with your first salary?

When a little child first utters the word “Maa" and “Baba" then that definitely becomes a
special occasion for its parents.
When, the kid learns to walk then he gets submerged into it. When, the kid learns to read and
write then he tries to outperform other beginners.

In this race of life, that small kid becomes a teenager and eventually gets into manhood. From
getting indulged into school, to entangled himself into busy college schedule, it becomes very
normal to pay less attention to behind the scene struggles to keep him alive, motivated and
financially supported.

When he finally starts to earn then he understands the real value of each penny. Perhaps, tears
come out from his eyes to even imagine how much money and struggle got indulged in
shaping his career and in shaping him as a man in this society.

I'm one of those kids who learnt to appreciate his parent's efforts even more with limitless
gratitude after receiving the first hard earned salary. It was around 50K.

Both my parents are very simple. If I purchase expensive things for them then they get
worried. Instead, I tried to surprise them in different occasions of this first salary receiving
month.

Some essentials for them.

13 year's ago, I remember, we didn't have enough luxury in our life. While doing essentials
shopping, with my mother, I saw her desire to purchase this Kajal but she told me,

“Arre, I don't want this. I was just looking at this. When, you'll earn so much son then you
buy me this one.”

It might be a mere gift for anyone. We got recovered financially within a few years and it
could be easily availed by her. But, for 13 year's she didn't express her desire to get this and
now after 13 year's, i can't forget that time.

It was absolutely a pleasure for me to get this as a gift to my mom, not as a symbol of love
but as a symbol of persistence and immense desire to make me successful as a man. Yes, she
had put the spark in me 13 year's ago.

Next ones were the presents to enjoy our presence together.

Next one was to fill more sweetness into their sweet faces with some chocolates.

The happiest moment for me was to get their call along with a picture on WhatsApp
everytime, with teary voice which as if wanted to tell,

“Our little kid has become a responsible man now.”

Last but not least, a surprise visit to them along with a whole trip planned in their favourite
place and in my favourite place, Jagannath Dham Puri to take lord's blessings with only a
single request that is to keep my parents healthy and to fill their faces with smile, no matter
how much struggle lord puts me in.

At the end, its only their smile that keeps me motivated to move on.
Emotionally, it was priceless for me. Their smile, happiness, satisfaction is everything that
keeps me strive to zeal for excellence.

It feels more alive to hear this from them,

“You are the greatest gift for us. Your smile just makes us alive. Son, we want you to live as
much as all the hair on your head or even more. You already made us proud and your well-
being is the reason we live for.”

At the end, it all feel worth to exist in someone's heart. Luckily, I exist in multiple hearts. No
matter what happens tomorrow, even during the toughest time I will live, remembering “I
exist in both of my parent's hearts which no one can borrow.”
