Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in English (Grade 8)

Learning Competency: Learners demonstrate understanding on how sensory images help in appreciating
and understanding literary piece.

Objectives:

1. Define sensory details/images.


2. Recognize the different types of sensory images.
3. Participate in a group activity.

Content: Sensory Images

Presentation Procedure

A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson.


*Daily Routine (Prayer, maintaining cleanliness, and attendance)
Motivation: The teacher will let the students read a sentence.
“Julia is beautiful.”
Questions will be asked: How beautiful Mary is?
After reading the statement, how does Mary looked like?
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson.
The teacher will make a more detailed description of Mary. The teacher will let the
students create a mental picture based on the description given by the teacher.
Questions will be asked: Now tell me how beautiful Mary is.
What are the characteristics that made Mary beautiful?
C. Presenting examples/instances of the lesson.
The teacher will give an instruction about the topic together with few examples.
D. The teacher will discuss the meaning of Sensory Images and will give the Types of
Sensory Images.
Sensory Images- is a detail that we clearly imagine through a writer’s use of words that appeal
to our senses- the sense of sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch.
E. Continuation of the discussion of new concepts.
The teacher will give the Types of Sensory Images and provide examples.
Types of Sensory Images
1. Visual- sense of sight.
2. Auditory- sense of hearing
3. Tactile- sense of touch.
4. Gustatory- sense of taste.
5. Olfactory- sense of smell.
F. Developing mastery.
Guided Practice: Analyze the dominant sensory image presented in the statement.
1. Her perfume smelled like flower and vanilla.
2. The pizza tasted like cardboard.
3. The buzzing sound of the filled room.
4. The sharp edge of the paper cut my finger.
5. The tiny red and climbed up the broken twig.
G. The class will be divided into 5 groups. The teacher will give a selection entitled “AFTER THE
RAIN” by Lee Tzu Pheng. Each group will be given an assigned sensory image and will identify
al the assigned sensory image in the poem. For example, Group 1 will identify all the Visual
Image in the poem. Afterwards, each group will present their output.
H. Making generalization and abstractions about the lesson.
The teacher will ask the following questions to the class.
1. What are Sensory Images?
2. How do Sen Images help you comprehend?
3. Why do we need those Sensory Images?
I. Evaluating Learning.
Independent Practice: Analyze the predominant sensory images presented in each statement.
1. The tolling of bells.
2. Baby’s breath was warm.
3. Aroma of freshly-baked cake.
4. Sweetness of chocolate
5. The piercing rays of the noon sun.
6. Birds are chirping.
7. One bite of sour lemon.
8. The car squeaked every time I hit a bump.
9. I smell like a mini coffee shop.
10. With the wine-stained lips, she’s nothing but trouble.
J. Additional activities.
Homework: Create a 5-liner poem that has sensory images about your chosen topic.
