Personal Protective Equipment Policy and Program

Purpose

The purpose of the PPE is to protect Visitors and Employee of Seiwa Kaiun Philippines Inc. from the
occupational hazards within the workplace by providing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Goal

It is our goal to use Engineering controls as the primary method for protecting employees. However,
when additional protection is necessary, employees will wear PPE.

Scope

The scope of this program includes PPE for eyes, face, head foot , leg and hand protection. If the
respirators and or hearing protection is necessary, the organizations Respiratory program and Hearing
Conversation Program respectively will cover their use.

Responsibility

The Person responsible for coordinating the program is Safety Officer. This person will make certain the
hazards identification / assessments conducted, appropriate PPE is assigned and affected employees
receiving training. The responsible person will also be in charge of maintaining the documentation of
this program.

Hazard Assessments

Each task and or job will be assesses to determine foot, head, eye, face and hand hazards present and
the proper PPE that should be worn. The assessment will include observation of the following source of
hazards;

1. Impact – Flying object, chips, dirt, dust, particles and motion of hazards.
2. Penetration – Falling / dropping objects, sharp object that cut or piece
3. Chemical – Chemical spill, Splashing, burns and fumes
4. Temperature – spark, splashes from molten materials, burns from high / low temperatures.
5. Harmful Dust – Dirt, particles, asbestos and lead
6. Light Radiation– Welding, cutting, brazing, lasers, furnaces, lights
A Hazard Assessment form will be completed for each job and / or task will serve as certification that a
hazards assessment has been performed.

The person conducting the hazard assessment will also survey jobs that are non-routine or periodic. In
some cases, these assessments may not be completed until the jobs are scheduled.

Hazard assessment will be update/evaluated whenever conditions or procedure change.

Selection of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)

The responsible person will make certain that the personal protective equipment in use is appropriate
for the identified task, provides a level of protection that meets or exceeds the minimum required to
protect employee from hazards and meet all standard requirements.

Training and Fit Testing

The responsible person will make certain that all affected employees receive training on;

1. What PPE is necessary and why?


2. How to wear PPE properly
3. PPE limitations and capabilities, and
4. PPE Care and Maintenance

Training will be repeated under the following conditions:

 Changes in the workplace that make previous training obsolete new assignment for employee or
change in job assignment/equipment
 Incorrect use of failure to use equipment
 Introduction of New PPE

PPE Inspection, Cleaning and Maintenance

Employees will conduct inspection, cleaning and maintenance of PPE at intervals according to
the manufactures instructions or company policy. Defective or damaged PPE will not be use and need
immediately discarded and replaced.

If employee provide their own PPE, make sure that it is adequate for the work place hazards, and that it
is maintained in a clean and reliable condition.
When to replace your PPE;

Like most material things, PPE doesn’t last forever. Wearing poorly preserved or malfunctioning PPE
could be as dangerous as not wearing any form of protection at all.

There are a few telltale signs that your PPE needs to replaced, including ;

 The expiration date indicated by the supplier has expired


 Discoloration
 Damaged

Unfortunately, every year completely preventable deaths or serious injuries occur from workers not
wearing PPE / using it properly.
