Notes for the teacher

• Vocabulary: household chores, personality adjectives, shopping, shops

• Grammar: utterances using the Present Simple, the Present Continuous, stative verbs, comparative and superlative adjectives,
too, not … enough, (not) as … as

Task 1: Ask the student to look at the picture.
Then ask the questions.
• It’s Saturday morning and the Smith family are at home.
What are they doing?
• What other household chores do you think they do at the
weekend?
• Compare the people in the family. [To elicit: younger/older
than, the youngest/oldest]
• Compare the family pets. [To elicit: bigger/smaller than, the
biggest/smallest, not as big as]
• Compare the kitchen and the living room. [To elicit: cleaner/
tidier/dirtier than, (not) as clean/tidy/dirty as]
Task 2: Ask the student to talk about himself/
herself. Use these questions to help.
• What household chores do you do?
• What household chores do the other members of your
family do?
• Who is the tidiest person in your family? Who is the messiest?
• Where do your parents go to buy bread?
• Where do your parents go to buy fruit and vegetables?
• How do your parents pay for things?
• Do you like shopping? Why / Why not?
• What are your favourite shops?
