from passing traffic?
c. Are line markings clear and instantly
recognizable?
d. Are all sight and stopping distances
adequate at works and at intersections?

pedestrians. Bicyclists, motorcyclists and
bus users been considered?
c. Is sight distance to traffic controllers
adequate?

e. Has access for emergency vehicles been

2.2 Speed Control
a. Are speed limit signs required for these
works?
b. If so, are they correctly placed?
c. Are motorist informed of the need to slow
down through the roadworks site?

with adequate sight distance?

3. Signs and Pavement Markings

3.1 Signs
a. Are all necessary directional, regulatory
and warning signs in place?

5. Pedestrian and Cyclists
5.1 General
a. Are appropriate travel paths and crossing
points provided for pedestrians and
cyclists?
b. Are pedestrians and cyclists adequately
warned of obstructions and temporary
works and hazards on their traveled way?

5.2 Elderly and Disabled Access


a. Are there adequate safety access
provisions for the elderly, disabled,
children and wheelchairs? (for example,
holding rails, kerbs and median ramps)

5.3 Cyclists
a. Is the route available for bicycles
continuous and free of squeeze points or
gaps?
6. Road Pavement
6.1 Pavement Defects
a. a. Is the pavement free of defects (for
example, excessive roughness or rutting,
potholes, loose materials, etc.) that could
result in safety problems like loss of
steering control for:

6.2. Skid Resistance
a. Does the pavement have adequate skid
resistance, particularly on steep
descents?
6.3. Ponding
a. Is the pavement free of areas where
ponding or sheet flow of water may
cause safety problems?
