Autobiography

Name:洪唯童

My name is Molly. First of all, I would like to introduce my English name. The
reason why I chose “Molly” as my name is that it means a girl who is down-to-earth,
curious, and passionate about the world, which is very similar to my personality. My
biggest advantage is that I'm an optimistic person. This personality makes me more
receptive to new things and knowledge. And I'm also enjoying the process of
immersing myself in a new environment. As long as there is something new I can
learn from, I'll be very willing to try it out even though I may be defeated.
Furthermore, I can adjust my emotions very quickly. So I'm not scared of making
mistakes.

I was born into a lovely family. My parents always support me to do everything

I want to. My Dad is a man who is full of wisdom and a spirit of lifelong learning. He
always guides me to look at myself as a newly-born baby, and never forgets to
explore new things with enthusiasm at any time. And my Mom is a mature and
rational woman, who lets me know the importance of thinking critically in this
dynamic world. And that also helps me have the ability to handle complex missions.

My first encounter with English was in the third grade of elementary school. I
was assigned to participate in the English Reader's competition, and I have been
very interested in learning languages since then. When I was in Junior high school, I
had the opportunity to go to Japan for an exchange program. At that time, my
English was not very fluent and I didn’t understand Japanese either. To prevent
myself from suffering the problem of communicating with others, I’ve decided to learn
more languages in the future.

In addition, I enjoy reading literary works. Because through reading the

beautiful literature, I can broaden my vision by learning what had happened in the
past. And these experiences I learned from the books can help me do better in the
present. And I think those words are the treasure left by history. I should spend more
time exploring the erudite riddle of it. Take my favorite writer Shakespeare for
example. I began to be deeply fascinated by his works after I saw the stage plays
Romeo and Juliet when I was in elementary school. There was one sentence that
impressed me deeply: ‘A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.’ This
sentence reminds me that I do not need to care too much about the brilliance of my
appearance because those things will not affect my real essence, and what is in my
mind is the most important. Just like the smell of the rose, even though the petals of
a rose have been discomposed, the smell will still remain. Thus, a person’s
appearance may fade away because of time and age, however, the inner personality
will always last unchangeable.
The education in literature is also the reason why I am applying for the
department of foreign language and literature at NTU because I know you have
always been the top researcher in Taiwan in this field, and I would like to receive
professional education from your school, so it will be my honor to study in this
department to learn the world of literature. I’m looking forward to studying in the
department of foreign language and literature at NTU, and I will definitely do my best
to explore the beauty of language.
