CHOKING AND CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) W/ RESCUE BREATHING

(INFANT)

 (Survey the scene) Scene is safe


 I saw a mother carrying a baby
 I’m . I know First aid, can I help?
 Hey baby! Are you ok? (repeat 3x)
 The baby is unresponsive. Help!
 Activate medical assistance as I assess the baby.
 Check for the obstruction (Head tilt/ chin lift)
 Obstruction not seen
 Check for the breathing (10 seconds)
 1, 1002, 1003, 1004, 1005,………….1010.
 The baby has (-) breathing, I’ll give 2 initial ventilation
 Air bounces back, I give 5 back blows & 5 chest thrusts
 Check for the obstruction
 Obstruction still not seen,
 Give another 2 ventilations
 Air bounces back, I give 5 back blows & 5 chest thrusts
 Obstruction seen, I finger sweep (use small finger)
 Check for the breathing and pulse (10 seconds)
 1, 1002, 1003, 1004, 1005,………….1010.
 The baby has (-) pulse (-) breathing, follow up medical assistance as I do
CPR.
 30 Compressions, 2 ventilations (5 cycles)

 The baby has (+) pulse (+) breathing, the baby has been revived. I’ll put the
baby in a recovery position (upright position) monitor vital signs and do the
secondary survey, head to toe examination. (Look for DCAP-BTLS, and ask
the mother for the SAMPLE).
