Tools Needed:
Large Phillips screwdriver
Flat blade screwdriver
Torque screwdriver with flat and Phillips screwdriver attachments

Disassembly:
1) Remove the head harness (spider). See figure 1.
2) Remove the band keepers. See figures 2 and 3.

NOTE: Please refer to the Operations and Maintenance Manual, Chapter 6, for instructions on the removal and
replacement of the band keepers if needed. Complete instructions are also available on the website (See spares
kit P/N 525-121 Band Keeper Kit, No Hood).

If your BandMask does not have band keepers, Kirby Morgan highly recommends having them installed. Refer
to Bulletin #8 of 2005.

3) Remove the old stainless steel band screws (530-095). If the


bands have already been fitted with the longer, bronze band
screws (530-097) these may be re-used if they pass inspection.
See figure 4.

4) Remove the old hood & face seal from the mask frame. Remove the earphones from pockets in hood.

5) Remove the top & bottom bands from old hood & face seal assembly.

Inspection:

1) Inspect top & bottom bands, band keepers and all related parts to ensure that they are not damaged,
broken, or bent and are in good working condition.

2) Ensure that all mounting surfaces are clean and free of debris, oils, or greases.

Reassembly:

1) Reinstall the top & bottom bands into the new hood & face seal assembly (510-708). See figure 6.

2) Start one of the new longer bronze band screws (530-097) into the right side (side block side) of the
bands. See figure 7.

3) Install face seal spacer (520-153). See figure 8.

NOTE: The face seal spacer (520-153) is held in place by being trapped between the face seal and mask frame.
No screws or glue are needed to hold it in place.

4) Reinstall the earphones into the pockets of the new face seal. See figure 9.

NOTE: A small amount of pump silicone lubricant on the outside of the earphone assemblies will make them
easier to install.

5) Reinstall the hood & face seal assembly onto the mask frame and start the bronze band screw on the left
side of the mask. See figure 10.

NOTE: Ensure that the hood & face seal are properly aligned and fitted onto the mask frame before tightening
the band screws. See figure 11.

6) Using a torque screwdriver with a large Phillips attachment, tighten the band screws to 26 inch pounds.

7) Reinstall band keepers. Refer to figure 3.

NOTE: Using a torque screwdriver, tighten the band keeper mounting screws to 12 inch pounds.

8) Reinstall spider.

Periodical Maintenance: Rinse the hood and face seal thoroughly with fresh water after each use. Air dry. Use
pump silicone conditioner on the face seal rubber to clean and help protect it.
