DANGER RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD

ALL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS, NORMAL STARTING PROCEDURES

AND THE MASTERS STANDING ORDERS MUST BE OBSERVED
BEFORE ENERGIZING THE STEERING STAND, AUTOPILOT,
STEERING GEAR, AND/OR GYROCOMPASS. IF THESE
PROCCEDURES AND ORDERS ARE NOT FOLLOWED, HAZARDOUS
CONDITIONS MIGHT EXIST CAUSING DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT
AND/OR PERSONEL.

THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE SHOULD ONLY BE COMPLETED WHILE

VESSEL IS AT LIE, BERTH, OR ANCHOR.

Background:
It has been advised that the O-Rings utilized in the V8114AC container of the
CMZ500/Mod700 & CMZ700 Series Gyrocompass need to be replaced during the annual
overhaul. Furthermore, the addition of Supporting Liquid into the Air Chamber to ensure
proper operation of the Gyrocompass.

Objective:
This document will define to the Installing Engineer the proper procedure to accomplish
this task

Equipment Required:
#2 Phillips Screw Driver
Syringe, Large

Parts Used:
SK5700 – Seal Kit, CMZ500/MOD700 & CMZ700
SL5000 Or SL1000 – Supporting Liquid

Change of Maintenance Procedure

Some changes of Maintenance Procedures for CMZ700/CMZ500(mod700) will be described on
this document. Carry out onboard service according to this document.
Parts for them must be brought by your own.

1. Replace O-rings and Seal-Washer

1-1. Service
Replace O-rings and Seal-Washer every assembling.
Also clean surface which O-rings and Seal-Washer will touch before fitting them.
Location of them is shown in Fig.-1 Container assy/

Criterion to replace Criterion to replace

Parts name/Parts number

or younger.
4 Seal Washer In case abnormality (scratch, Every assembling
P/#. V8109TW transform) was found.

1-2.Background
O-ring or Seal-Washer which has been tightened will have invisible scratch or transform.
Re-using them may cause leakage.

2. Confirmation form of Rubber Isolator and replace with new one

2-1.Service
Remove Rubber Isolator and confirm form on overhauling. If the form has been changed as
below figure, Fig.-3 Change form of Rubber Isolator, replace it with new one(P/#. V8114FL).
*Confirmation must be done only while it is removed from Master compass, not confirm
while it is fitted in Master compass.

2-2.Background
Form of Rubber Isolator will change due to long time use(2-3 years). Rubber isolator which
is like above figure, “Need to be replaced” does not have proper performance to absorb
vibration in ups and downs. This may cause unstable heading or damage on any parts such
as Centering pin.

3. Insert 150cc of Supporting liquid in Air-Chamber of Upper Container unit

3-1.Service
Upon disassembling, soak up Supporting liquid in Air-Chamber of Upper Container unit by Injector.
Before re-assembling Upper Container unit to Lower Container unit, insert 150cc of Supporting
liquid in Air-Chamber. Refer to Fig.-7 New.

3-2.Background
Air-Chamber has one hole(dia 3.0mm) to lead Gyrosphere compartment. There should be no
Supporting liquid in Air-Chamber upon assembling. Supporting liquid expanding for running
Gyrosphere, will ingress into Air-Chamber to avoid damage on Gyrosphere due to high pressure. .

However, too much Supporting liquid in Air-Chamber has been found on several systems. This
must be from Gyrosphere compartment and followings would be reason for the ingressing.
aa. Poor airtight of Air-Chamber (there is other hole). Then Supporting liquid can be ingressed
from Gyrosphere compartment without expanding.
bb. Gyrosphere compartment could not be filled up by Supporting liquid. In this case, Liquid
can be easily ingressed into Air-Chamber through hole(dia 3.0mm) when Container unit is
disturbing/vibrating although airtight of Air-Chamber was correct.

Loss of Supporting liquid in Gyrosphere compartment will cause following situation.

aa. Unstable heading (Wandering, Swing, Stuck on following-up) as Gyrosphere will touch
Container unit upon Rolling or Pitching.
bb. High Gyropshere operating current as clearance between bottom Electrodes closes.
cc. Dirty Liquid/Electrodes due to high temperature.

By adding Supporting liquid in Air-Chamber, Gyrosphere will work correctly because loss of liquid
in Gyropshere compartment will not be excessive.
