Upset Integral Joint Tubing Connections

Service Recommendation
•SB-6 and SB-8 connections are two-step integral joint tubing connec-
tions featuring a bored connection ID that matches the pipe body ID.
This provides improved flow characteristics and minimizes damage to
internal plastic coating from wireline and downhole tools.

30° Torque Shoulder and Metal Seal

•Positive stop controls makeup position for multiple
makeups.
•High torque capability for workovers and to prevent
back off.
•External metal seal capable of resisting API pipe body
collapse pressure.

Two-Step Thread
•Non-interference thread minimizes connection stress and galling.
•Deep stabbing eliminates cross threading.
•Makes up with fewer turns.

Center Step Torque Shoulder

•90° reserve secondary torque shoulder.

Machined OD and ID
•Turned OD guarantees clearances and tensile strength greater than
the pipe body.
•Recess-free bore matched to the pipe body ID improves flow
characteristics, minimizes damage to internal plastic coatings, and
insures drift.
•Uniform controlled wall thickness in the threaded area.

Upset Integral Joint Tubing Connections

20 degrees 14° Internal Metal Seal

•Seal is generated by radial interference, reducing the
effects of tensile load.
•Capable of resisting API pipe body internal pressure.
7 1/2 degrees •Sealing mechanism energized by internal pressure.
•Rubbing of the seal surfaces minimized, reducing the
possibility of galling during makeup.
•Seal integrity not affected by multiple trips.

Corrosion Barrier Option

•Completes the protection provided by plastic coating.
•Insures isolation of the connection interface.
•TEFLON® ring is inert to internal fluids.
•Protects the metal seal from crevice corrosion.
•Seal ring is capable of repeated makeups.
•Engineered to maintain a smooth ID, reducing turbu-
lence and erosion/corrosion.

Interchangeability
•SB-8, SB-8PR, SB-6, and SB-6PR connections are
not interchangeable with RTS-6 and RTS-8 connec-
tions or other standard two-step connections.

SB-8 and SB-8PR Connections Data Table Notes:

1. SB-8 and SB-8PR connections pressure ratings are equal to the API pipe body rating for minimum internal yield and collapse.
2. SB-8 and SB-8PR connections are stronger in tension than the pipe body. The minimum yield load is calculated by multiplying the pipe
body area times the material minimum yield strength.
3. String length is calculated by dividing the minimum yield load by both the nominal weight in air and a 1.6 design factor. These values
are given for reference only and do not include other load factors such as bending, buoyancy, temperature, load dynamics, combined
loads, etc.
4. All connections for a given OD are interchangeable.
5. Performance ratings are based on nominal pipe body dimensions.
