IV: VALUES/CHARACTER INTEGRATION
Punctuality is a great habit which surely results in success.
V:: INTRODUCTION:

Research is searching for truth in a systematic way or in a scientific method.

Innovations and breakthroughs that you come to know and enjoy are product
of research . Etymotologically, research comes from the middle French word reserche’
which means “ the act of searching closely”. Additionally the word” research “
is a combination of the prefix re-which means “again” and the word “ search “
,which means “to look for”. To summarize, research is the process of looking
Information once again. Its main objective is to answer questions and acquire new
Information, whether to solve a problem or to shed light on confusing facts

VI: BODY:

A. INQUIRY vs. RESEARCH

Nature of Inquiry and Research

One goal of education is knowledge acquisition. However, education is not just

stocking your brain with knowledge; it also encourages you to use acquired knowledge
for a deeper understanding of the world – an understanding that inspire you to create,
construct, or procedure things for the betterment of your life and the rest of the world.

How is this possible? Inquiry, a term that is synonymous with the word “investigation”,
is the answer to this question. When you inquire or investigate, you tend to ask questions
to probe or examine something. Research is a science because it follows a systematic
procedure. It is a scientific, experimental, or inductive manner of thinking.
B. SCIENTIFIC METHOD IN RESEARCH

1. Empirical approach = knowledge is gained through direct observation and

experimentation.
2. Observation = To increase the veracity of the information you gained from the
observation, you have to measure it carefully using an appropriate instrument.
3. Inquiry = knowledge comes from inquiries that are answerable.Questions must be
answered through scientific investigation.
4. Hypotheses = an educated guess , or hypothesis, is an attempt to explain a
phenomena.
5. Experiments = the given hypothesis should assure testability in a crafted
condition for the accuracy and reliability of results.
6. Analyses = for findings to be reliable, the data gathered are subjected for analysis
through statistical methods.
7. Conclusion = the process of making inferences involves concrete data to rule out
opinions.
8. Replication = this means doing the same study once again to a different set of
participants to test the soundness of the obtained result.
C. GOALS OF RESEARCH

1. Description = this refers to the way in which the phenomena being studied is
defined,classified, and categorized.
2. Prediction = it entails stating the posssible consequences of presents events based
on existing knowledge of something else.
3. Understanding / Explanation = this is the process of analyzing information to
find out the causes behind phenomena.
D. IMPORTANCE OF RESEARCH

1. Knowledge is established.
2. Perceptions are corrected.
3. Phenomena are validated.
4. Present solutions are tested for effectivity.
5. Problems are solved.
E. CHARACTERISTICS OF RESEARCH

Research is a scientific ,experimental, or inductive manner of thinking. Starting from

particular to more complex ideas, you execute varied thinking acts that range from lower
order to higher order thinking strategies reflected by these research activities; identifying
the topic or problem, gathering data, making theories, formulating hypotheses, analyzing
data, , and drawing conclusions. Cognitively driven terms like empirical, logical, cyclical,
analytical, critical, methodical, and replicable are the right descriptive words to
characterize research.

E.INQUIRY vis – a – vis RESEARCH

GEN-FM-018 Rev 0 Effective Date 01 Jun 2021

One scholarly activity that significantly involves inquiry is research. Similar to
inquiry that starts from what you are ignorant about, research makes you learn something
by means of a problem-solving technique. Both inquiry and research encourage you to
formulate questions to direct you to the exact information you want to discover the object
of your curiosity. Your questions operate like a scrutiny of a persons attire to find out
what are hidden or among the compartments or folded parts of his/her clothes. Although
the core word for both inquiry and research is investigation or questioning they are not
exactly the same in all aspects. Research includes more complex acts of investigation than
inquiry.

VII: SUMMARY/CONCLUSION

One goal of education is knowledge acquisition. However, education is not just stocking
your brain with knowledge; it also encourages you to use acquired knowledge for a
deeper understanding of the world- an understanding that inspires you to create, construct,
or produce things for the betterment of your life and the rest of the world. How is this
possible? Inquiry, a term that is synonymous with the word “investigation”, is the answer
to this question. When you inquire or investigate, you tend to ask questions to probe or
examine something.
Research is a science because it follows a systematic procedure. Science is
conceptualized as a procedural and systematic approach in gaining new knowledge.
Knowledge gained from science is not based on subjective or personal views; it rather
from objective or tangible pieces evidence which come from a meticulously designed
research study.
Knowledge that came from research is characterized by the following elements;
empirical approach,observation,inquiry,hypotheses,experiments,analyses,conclusion
and replication.
The goals of research are; description, prediction,understanding/explanation.
