Introduction

A wonderful morning for everyone, thank you for attending this debate, so without further ado,
let’s begin. Our topic for this debate is all about the positive impact of tourism on the economy. We, the
affirmative group, believes that this statement true.

Rebuttals

I would like to address the statement about the inflation and job treated poorly, what you said is
not exactly true. Tourism industry keeps the local traditions and customs alive because tourist enjoy
traditional shows. Money from tourist can be used to protect the natural landscape, create new facilities
and new roads that will be a huge benefit for locals. It will generate greater demands for foods and
crafts. In terms of jobs. Money is earned through hard work its common that you have low wage when
you are just starting a job and tourism industry jobs are somehow seasonal, they don’t pay low wages,
they pay base on the job and base on your hard work.

For your 2nd statement, it is true that tourism industry is high profitable but it is not the only
reason why Philippine’s economic have grown, it is also because of other department that supports the
government. Also, all sectors of tourism industry have given proper attention through the years and it is
proven by the tourism sustainability and what we see in our environment is the living proof. No one can
deny that Covid-19 really affects the economy of the Philippines dramatically, most of the employees
lose their job, let me answer your question with another question. What is more important, life or
money? Its true that without money how can you live a good life right? That is why at that time we need
to use our minds and make the right decisions because no one saw that this pandemic will be this
devastating.

Summarize the case:

According to the first speakers of the affirmative group, there are many positive economic
impacts that enhance local communities and bring benefits to the destination through tourism. For
example, employment, currency exchange, imports and taxes are just few of the ways that tourism can
bring money int a destination.
They also mentioned that the tourism industry’s main benefits range from providing jobs to
increase wealth, like in hotel sectors, add on people indirectly employed too, like guides, gardener,
drivers and laundry staffs. Also, they mentioned that a lot of countries are showing the eagerness to
develop their tourism to improve the quality of life of their people.
So as we can see, the global spread of tourism is going really fast that resulted to the
development in economy and benefits not only employment and industry but also in variety of related
sectors.
So for the 2nd argument delivered by Ms. Esguerra, it is the positive contribution of tourism in
Philippine’s economy through the years. It is divided into 3 points. First, tourism industry mostly
contributed in our countries GDP or what we call Gross Domestic Products, tourism contributes 12.7% in
the economy of the Philippine in 2018. Second, travel and tourism directly support millions of jobs or
about 5.8% of employment last year, this concludes the employments at hotel, travel agents, airlines,
restaurants, and other sectors. The 3rd one is, tourism for developing infrastructure. Infrastructure is a
core area of tourism industry and plays a distinctive role in the development of this ever-expanding
industry. Several countries have recognized significance of infrastructure in relation to tourism industry
and their governments have coordinated their activities with the tourism industry by providing tourism
specific infrastructure facilities.
