Answer

As I can tell from the movie, the majority of the speakers and participants, as I can tell from the movie,
were allegedly victims of the late President Ferdinand Marcos' armed troops in the Bayan of Palimbang,
Barangay Malisbong, Sultan Kudarat. Many of them spoke of the murder of their family members, the
starvation of their child, and rape of others. The speaker stated Abdulsukor Tacbil, who is the son of the
person who built the famous mosque in Malisbong, where his father and other men were murdered. He
also explained how a massacre committed by the armed forces which has caused his family to lose all of
their assets. In addition to being an adherent of Islam, Hadji Muhammad Fauzt Piana was also a well-
known as a Christian priest (Full Pledged IMAM). He is the only man who was brought into the mosque
and survived that tragedy. I should also note that, the majority of presenters and participants are
commentators, they highlighted the beneficial work done by the armed forces in their community. They
only talk about the brutality they all encounter during massacres. They experience tragic history as a
result of the declaration of martial law as shown in the documentary clip. Common people who are the
eyewitnesses and victims featured in the documentary film include Fortunato Abad Jr. (Retired General),
Abo Malinog Bayao (Farmer), Lasina K. Abdullah (Child Starved to Death), Bernie Bandala (Rescued by
the Military), Amina Gunao (Husband is being killed in front of her), and Bayol Maguiales (Sexually
Assaulted).

randomly for interviews and photographed in different settings exactly in their place.
3. The purpose of the communication.

Answer

These documentary films lead us into the situation in part of the Philippines under the dictatorship, with
such abuses among the individuals from Barangay Malisbong. From my perspective, the purpose of this
communication is to showcase the tragic history they are facing during the Declaration of Martial Law.
They highlighted the sorrow they experienced in those days. This film is a look back in time at how
Martial Law affected individuals and will always be remembered as a tragic event, particularly for our
fellow citizens from Barangay Malisbong, Bayan ng Palimbang, and Sultan Kudarat.

4. The topic: what is being talked about?

Answer

The main subject of this documentary film is the situation of our fellow men from Malisbong, Palimbong,
Sultan Kudarat, and Mindanao. This film is titled "The Palimbang Massacre. All the interviewees talked
about their abused lives during the Declaration of Martial. We can see the trauma they experienced
during those times. They stated how tragic their history was way back then, and I should say, hopefully it
will not be repeated as it is.

5. The mode or channel of linguistic expression.

Answer

There’s only plain written text and spoken language initially displayed in the documentary video. There’s
also plain text in the Filipino language narrating the film. The speaker or participant speaks in Filipino
while English subtitles are being provided. The mode or channel of linguistic communication conveys
both spoken and written languages. This documentary film summarizes the entirety of the happenings in
the Palimbang Massacre. This film is very understandable wherein they really provide a subtitle to
whoever speaks the Filipino language in such a way that everyone from different languages will truly
understand what they mean from the words they are trying to convey.
