NATIONAL NEWS

1. Indian Sukhoi-30MKI and 2 C-17 Globemaster-III strategic airlifter


landed in Australia to participate in ‘Pitch Black’ air combat exercise.
2. 17 nations with 100 aircraft and 2,500 military personnel will be
participating in the air combat exercise.

3. Educationist, Professor Pradeep Kumar Joshi has been recently


appointed as the chairman of the Union Public Service Commission
(UPSC)

4. Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh paid glowing tributes to Indian


National Army (INA) veteran, Major Ishwar Lal Singh at a memorial
service held in New Delhi on 19th August.

5. The new Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Bill 2021 has been


approved by the Lok Sabha.

6. 7. Indian Railway tests its heaviest and longest goods train Super
Vasuki, 3.5 km long, freight train with a capacity of 295 loaded
wagons.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. US President, Joe Biden and Secretary of State Mr. Antony Blinken


greeted India on the occasion of its 75th Independence Day.

2. United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)


calls for halting cryptocurrency rise in developing countries.

3. Mexican President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador made a


proposal to the UN to set up a commission for global truce for five
years and should include PM Narendra Modi, Pope Francis and UN
Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

4. US President, Joe Biden has signed a massive climate change and


health-care spending bill into law. The Climate-Health Care Bill
aims to bring changes in the way medicines are priced.
5. China has started its largest-ever military exercises around Taiwan, in
the aftermath of the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. China’s
navy, air force and other departments are taking part in the drill.

IT NEWS

1. Commonwealth Games takes big step towards e sports: -A trial took


place at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham to see whether e sports
could take their place alongside traditional sports. A hundred players
representing 20 different Commonwealth nations fought for medals in three
different video games: Rocket League, Dota2 and e Football. The president
of the Commonwealth Games Federation, Dame Louise Martin, told the
BBC: “Going forward this will be a sport within the Games - that’s my
personal opinion.”

2. The department of telecommunications (DoT) has announced that 5G


internet services will be rolled out in India in 2022 in 13 cities across the
country. These cities are Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai,
Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow,
Mumbai and Pune.
5G adoption would boost video content streaming, gaming, and social
messaging on smartphones.

3. Alkesh Kumar Sharma (India’s Electronics and Information


Technology Secretary) appointed to IGF panel by UN Secretary General,
Antonio Guterres.
IGF (INTERNET GOVERNANCE FORUM): - Panel of eminent experts on
internet governance.

SPORTS

1. Women’s fours team created history by securing India’s first gold medal
in lawn bowls in Commonwealth Games.

2. India secured 6 medals in track and field. Avinash Sable becomes the first
Indian Man to claim a medal in Men's 3000m steeplechase Eldhose Paul
becomes the first Indian to win gold in the triple jump. Priyanka Goswami
wins India’s 1st medal in race walk. Tejaswin Shankar wins India’s first
High Jump Bronze Medal.
3. Bhagwati Devi Dagar, a 94-year-old Indian sprinter, won the gold
medal in the 100-meter sprint at the Tampere, Finland, World Masters
Athletics Championships.
4. England has been crowned UEFA Women's EURO 2022 winners with
the hosts defeating Germany 2-1 after extra time in the Wembley Stadium
final.

5. Manisha Kalyan became the first Indian woman footballer to play at the
UEFA Women's Champions League when she made her debut for Apollon
Ladies FC.

6. Former India football team captain Samar 'Badru' Banerjee, who led the
country to a historic fourth-place finish in the 1956 Melbourne
Olympics, passed away.

7. Indian Judoka, Linthoi Chanambam won India’s first-ever medal in Judo


World Championships in the Women’s 57kg category at the World Judo
Cadet (U18) Championships.

8. Antim Panghal won the Under-20 World Wrestling Championship


held at Bulgaria. She is the first Indian woman to do so.

9. Priyanka Kewat from Madhya Pradesh has clinched a gold medal in U-


18, 48kg category at the International Wushu Tournament in Batumi,
Georgia.

MISCELLANEOUS NEWS

1. Suresh N Patel was appointed as the new Central Vigilance


Commissioner on August 2, 2022.

2. Dr. Ranjit Rath took over as the new Chairman and MD of Oil India
Limited (OIL) on August 2nd.

3. Indian pilot, Zoya Agarwal who is the 1st Indian woman to fly over
the North Pole has become a part of the prestigious SFO Aviation
Museum, becoming the only human to be part of the museum.

4. 106-year-old astronomy Lab Langat Ram college in Bihar made it to


the UNESCO heritage list. The observatory was built in1916 and
might have had India’s first Planetarium built in 1946.

5. Prof. Ramdhar Singh becomes the first Indian Psychologist on the


‘Heritage Wall of Fame’ of the Society for Personality and Social
Psychology in the USA.
