players at a time. He can choose any one out of four renowned photographers to take the
photographs. In how many ways can the photographs be taken, if the Captain and the Vice-Captain of
the team are always included in the photographs? Also, find out the number of ways in which the
photographs can be taken, if the Captain and the Vice-Captain of the team are never included in the

i.e. HOD, an Associate Professor, an Assistant Professor and a Lecturer. Each department also has 5
student coordinators. A panel of 4 members is to be constituted for a conference such that 1 faculty
member is selected from each department so that the final committee has a HOD, an Associate
Professor, an Assistant Professor and a Lecturer. Also, 10 student coordinators have to be selected and
no restrictions exist for the selection of the student coordinators. In how many ways can the panel be

members have decided to form a leadership board in the club which consists of 4 members: President,
Vice-president, Public Relations Officer and General Manager. The Public Relations Officer is to be
selected from the unmarried members. For all the other positions, the member selected has to be

Q6. In a game, a person has to select three cards from a deck of cards. If he selects a face card, then

Q8. A married couple invites 6 other couples for a dinner party. They are seated around a long table
with one seat each at the short ends of the table and 6 seats each on either long side. In how many
ways can they be seated if the hosts sit at the short ends and the other guests are free to sit
anywhere?
Q9. In how many ways can 7 identical erasers be distributed among 4 kids in such a way that each kid
gets at least one eraser but nobody gets more than 3 erasers?
A) 16 B) 20 C) 14 D) 15
Q10. In how many ways can 8 identical pens be distributed among Amal, Bimal, and Kamal so that
Amal gets at least 1 pen, Bimal gets at least 2 pens, and Kamal gets at least 3 pens? [TITA]
1. Solution:
The total number of ways in which five tourists can stay in eight hotels is (8) 5. The number of ways in
which no two tourists stay together = 8 × 7 × 6 × 5 × 4 = 6720. Therefore, the number of ways in
which at least two tourists stay together = (8) 5 – 6720 = 32,768 - 6720 = 26,048.
2. Solution:
If the Captain and the Vice-Captain are always included, the number of ways is 9C4 × 6!. But, these
photographs can be taken by the photographers in 4 different ways. So, the required number of ways
is 9C4 × 6! × 4.
If the Captain and the Vice-Captain are never included, the number of ways is 9C6 × 6!. But, these
photographs can be taken by the photographers in 4 different ways.
3. Solution:
= 2∑50 - 50 =
4. Solution:
A HOD can be selected in four ways. Further, an Associate Professor can be selected in three ways,
then an Assistant Professor can be selected in 2 ways, and then there is only one way for the selection
of a Lecturer.
5. Solution:
For the selection of the Public Relations Officer, the number of possibilities is 3.
Now, for the selection of the other members, cases have to be considered for the one couple who
together won't be a part of the board.
If the husband is a part, of the 10 remaining married members, two more have to be selected and then
positions have to be given to all three selected. The number of cases = 10
C2 × 3!
If the wife is a part, the number of cases = C2 × 3!
10
Total = 3 × (2 × 10
C2 × 3! + 10
C3 × 3!).
6. Solution:
First Case: All three cards are face cards; Number of possible cases = C3
12
Second Case: First, a number has to be selected; this can be done in 9 ways. Now, three cards of this
number have to be selected, which can be done in 4C3 ways.
Therefore, the number of cases = 9 × 4C3
Therefore, the total number of cases = 12
C3 + 9 × 4C3
7. Solution:
The groups can be: (1, 9); (2, 8); (3, 7); (4, 6); (5, 5).
Number of ways to form a group (1, 9) = C1
10
8. Solution:
The hosts can take the seats at the short ends in 2! ways.
Note that the number of ways in which mn different items can be divided equally into m groups, each
containing n objects and where the order of the groups is not important is given by:
Number of ways =
12 guests can be divided into 2 groups of 6 each in (12!) / [(6!)2 (2!)] ways, (m = 2, n = 6).
They can then be assigned to either side of the long table in 2! x (12!) / [(6!)2 (2!)] = (12!) /
(6!)2 ways.
Next on each side, 6 people can sit in 6! ways.
Hence, the total number of ways = 2! x (6!)2 x (12!) / (6!)2 = 2(12!)
9. Solution:
⟹ 6×5×4/ 3×2×1 = 20
It is given that nobody gets more than 3 erasers so let us say that one kid could get 4, 5, or 6 erasers.
If one kid ‘a’ gets 4 erasers, the other kids b, c, and d can get one each respectively such that 4, 1, 1,
1 or 1, 1, 1, 4 or 1, 4, 1, 1 or 1, 1, 4, 1.
10.Solution:
Let us assume Amal gets 1 + x pens and Bimal gets 2 + y pens and Kamal gets 3 + z pens
1+x+2+y+3+z=8
