Introduction/ Background

Preventing infectious disease outbreaks, including the COVID-19 pandemic, and

protecting human health would only be possible through safely managed water,
sanitation, and hygiene. People around the world are having difficulties determining how
they have to live their everyday lives in quarantine. Various products were outsold in the
markets, especially those belonging to basic needs and sanitary products such as
alcohol, rice, medical supplies, canned goods, and bottled water.

Besides, Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) forced some of the

restaurants, movie theaters, gyms, educational institutions, and other businesses to
temporarily close. A rapid decrease in economic progress was observed, and the
manufacturing of essential goods had slowed down. Disruptions to the supply chain of
products occur, and both national and international businesses suffer major losses. It is
observed that the cash flow in the market has become poor, which has made the
revenue growth in the economy slow. Unfortunately, employees were affected as well,
knowing that they had lost their jobs due to shutdowns in some industries.

By the second quarter of 2020, lockdowns will have been lifted, which will cause
restaurants, movie theaters, gyms, and other establishments to reopen. However, there
are still shortages of staff and children are still out of school. All of these circumstances
changed the economic status of the country, and it is observed that the digital economy
suddenly boomed. Retailers adapted to these challenges by embracing the emerging
technologies that created connections with consumers and gave them a more
convenient experience. It affected the status of some factors affecting sales and profit,
whereas new trends in product categories emerged, lower loyalty became common,
contactless payment became common, and social media shopping became a primary
process of transaction.

It may be assumed that most people around the world are still capable of
producing their basic needs even though a pandemic occurs. Despite that fact, there
are still uncertainties as to when these goods could be produced. Water is not an
exception in this case. For instance, seeking clean water has become a difficulty. It will
lead to the transmission of diseases like cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis A,
typhoid, and polio.

As a response to the aforementioned situation, building a business regarding the

production of water tumblers with filter and temperature control will meet the needs and
satisfy the preferences of the customers. The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us the
importance of proper sanitation and care, which also applies to the water that we drink.
A human being could not live without drinking water, and it is important to monitor its
sanitation. Aside from that, tumblers are convenient to use as they can be brought
anywhere. A multifunction tumbler that is capable of both sanitizing the water and
changing its temperature will help the consumer to ensure its well-being.
